do you mean 4BD1T?
CHT on here converted a very late model 300Tdi. there are some pics and info floating around somewhere.
The biggest issue is getting a bellhousing to mate your R380 to the engine. The conversions so far have used a welded and redrilled LT85 bellhousing AFAIK. These aren't too easy to find.

This is an interesting question as would the rubber isolated flywheel and clutch set up be retained or would you go to an Isuzu clutch with an input shaft adapter.
The other issue is that it would have to meet Minimum the same emissions as a TD5 to be legally registered so this may also be an issue but it would mainly be particulate matter so a PCM filter may be able to be fitted to get around that but again this is not cheap.
It would eliminate a hell of a lot of electrical issues and if coil sprung would make the D2 (newer, larger, more comfy) as simple and reliable as a D1 as well as relatively cheap to run and service etc.
I wonder if the ring gear was rubberised if you would be able to run a D1 type auto as I know the standard ZF doesnt like 4Bd1's?

In Qld at least to get an engine swap ,it (the new engine) must be newer than the car that it is to be fitted in, and also have any emissions control stuff fitted to it that it was supplied with in the car it was removed from.
So if say your TD5 is 2002, you need a 2003 or newer engine.
