Today, went to Bruny Island for a day trip and to help friends with some construction jobs.

Fuel gauge LOW, thought I'd buy some on the way etc. didn't need to. After putting 26litres in after we got home again,(About 110km) the level was almost twice as much as when we left

Cruised effortlessly and quietly, 90km/h I can hear the Mudders and the children whining over the so called 'noisy and rough' 4BD1.

Gruntily out pulled numerous lesser vehicles up everyhill we came across, didn't pull away from them, just kept my speed and watched them slowly recede into the distance


Overall, for an engine that has covered around 550,000km now, was oil changed every 5000km from new, never had an injector service or work done on the pump, and was turbo'ed at 420,000km I am EXTREMELY IMPRESSED.


I love my RR-Isuzu, and it will serve it's purpose for many, many years to come!

X2 except for the quiet bit as my R380 has a PITA whine in 4th and 5th at 90 - 100, as we built it up from a heap of parts. great box otherwise.

Put a set of 32'' roadies on it for a trip once, had to get on the radio and tell all the TD5 & V8 disco,s to get out of the way going up a steep winding range. must have rubbed salt into the wound as I had the 130 trailer loaded and on the back4th gear 15psi boost and 650 deg pyro. It never ceases to amaze for such a basic engine how good they pull.

Forgot to mention EGT's, My Pyro never went above 450 all day, (upstream) even when towing a Hilux dual cab on a car trailer last week it never got near 550.

Must admit it is amazing to watch JC disapear into the horizon when out with him as my RRover runs original 3.5 Petrol.

Your phyro is pre turbo yea?
If so that thing runs very cool and would be bulletproof. On noise level. I agree they not that bad. On my 120 I can hear Turbo spool up over engine noise. I'd imagine the Rangie would be quieter again.

Once I get over this supercharged V8 bug in my curent Rangie a 4BD1T will be in my next one. Hope to find a 94 LSE in next few years for the build.

These engines have charm. Once you have one hard to go back to dark the side.

After 5 attempts, (3 ZF's and 2 TF case rebuilds on LT95's) I now have a taper roller bearing TF LT95, ex 6X6 perentie.

Haven't hurt THAT yet, and not likely to as it gets an oil change also at every engine oil change interval.
