What ratio is 1st gear in the LT85 and LT95?

I think my Isuzu box is about 5.8:1. That gear is only ever used for going slow downhill.

Was the 'T' version of the LT230 used Land Rovers with the 4BD1?

I would have thought they didn't come along till later.

High ratio T cases seem to be like rocking horse poo. Maybe Blknight can offer some wisdom.
I have a high ratio R case with a 1983 casting date, it was originally bolted to a 3sp TF727.

Fine when you have enough boost to push it.

OK, I have made some enquiries, Barry tells me ALL work IE transfer reduction kits, etc etc are to be ordered through MR automotive, so unless there is a group of us willing to commit at one time through MR ( IE like that thread on OL), then I can't offer any better prices .

What he said - my book actually says LR230T (whatever that is supposed to be!!!). I will find out soon if it has taper rollers.

Inc - the overall (1st low) ratio is about the same as your tdi. If you want it to go slower down steep hills, the cheap solution (but possibly slightly dangerous on a vehicle with PAS and power brakes) option is to just turn the engine off (could use a toggle switch in the stop solenoid circuit if you want to keep the other electrics on). I do this on my IIA diesel and it works amazingly well (but it has a cable fuel shutoff, and NO PAS or power brakes).

When you get to a steep bit, pull out cable, descent slows - when it flattens out a bit, push cable back in and keep driving.
