    Well thanks everyone for chipping in with this thread had an email from the old owner it a 4BB1 so that makes it a 3.6 litre isuzu. So now that we have setted that, is it able to fit into my 130 I suspect it can, how different is it going to be from fitting a 4BD1 motor and will I require different components. Is this a hard motor to get parts for should I scrap the idea of it as a donor and continue on the search. Did a search on here it has a longer stoke/bore ratio so is it lower revving "The 4BB1 produced 72BHP (54kw) in most configurations, and was not a very high revving engine. It also has a bore/stroke of 102/110mm...." At 54kw does it have a similar rating to a 4BD1.

    I'm happy to be corrected here, but as far as I know, the 3.9L 4BD1 and the 3.6L 4BE1 are the same block, so in that case you would have the flywheel housing/bell housing etc to suit either, and it would have a Lt95 or Lt85 gearbox. I'm not familiar with the 4BB1, but I think you will find the block/housings will be different.

    Garry, I hope your head hasn't exploded from reading this thread....

    Yes Murray its exploding the 4BE1 different motor it bed time for this little frazeled Land rover owner.

    Not quite. 4BD1 is 102x118mm borexstroke, 4BE1 is 105x105mm.

    My (1988) manuel only lists 4BC2, 4BE1 4BD1(T). Which suggests that the 4BB1 had already been replaced by the 4BE1 by then.

    Not sure if you know somethying I don't on the gearbox? I have seen a few 4BB1s converted to mate to series gearboxes (as mentioned I almost bought one - not a 4BC2 as I initially stated). So god knows how the gearboxes held up, but there were some series conversion kits...

    Garry - If you are happy with the 4BB1, then at least you have an engine, if (possibly) nothing else. I have heard rumours about 4BB1s snapping cranks, however I am sure that won't be an issue in a land rover. Btw - new cranks are available! http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/20...SUZU_4BB1.html

    In general, parts seem to be available.

    The only issue I can think of would be the legality of putting a 4BB1 in a vehicle as "new" as a 130. But you could always convince the authorities it is a 4BE1...
