Question 3.9isuzu gbox conversion to nissan patrol box

does anybody have any info on swapping the landy 5 speed box for one out of a nissan patrol.I have heard of this being done and would like to get some info on if its still possible and where would you get the adaptor to suit.Given that the patrol boxes are pretty strong i would think this would be a good conversion.Any help would be greatly appreciated.ps I have a 86 county with a 5 speed box.

Why not fit the 4-speed LT95 from a 1984 4BD1 County or Stage1? They are pretty much unbreakable. You may also be able to get all the other floor panels to suit.

There was some info on the LRA website, but I have not looked for some time.

There seems to be strong nissan 5 speeds and others that have problems stripping splines in 5th gear.

The problem may be adapting to the Isuzu flywheel housing. I imagine most of these conversions have been behind the rover V8.

You might also check Dellow or Marks adaptors.

If you use the nissan t/case, you will have a centre rear output and the tailshaft will run across at an angle to a rover rear diff. But wouldn't be an issue with a nissan diff.

Have you considered a isuzu box I need to explore this option I think Dougal has done this one, indestructable box apparently. They are a cable operated gear level that bit I am not sure about. Hopefully he may shed a bit of light on this option. Check out the thread here I think you will find something on it.

    Gaz,
I have a cable shift Isuzu box here. You can check it out next time you are around.

Yep, the 2.8L Diesel and the 3.0L Petrol had alloy boxes and are junk.

The new 3.0L Diesel boxes have problems with 5th. The only decent one is from behind a 4.2/4.5/4.8L and even they strip 5th if you tow a lot.

When I changed my County from 5 speed to 4 speed (Lt85 to Lt95), I didn't need to change any floor panels. I've been told you need to change something when going from 4 to 5 though, not sure exactly what.

Dougal has an Isuzu 5 speed, with LT230 behind a 4BD1T in his rangie. AFAIK it was converted from cable shift to stick shift.

I use a cable shift, 6 speed Isuzu box (I have no doubt that it is stronger than an LT95). Used a cable shift lever from an old toyota corolla. It's pulled apart at moment due to swap from one vehicle to another, so I can't take install pics.

There should be several other front wheel drive vehicles with cable shift at the wreckers.

The corolla shifter has 2 cables. Each cable is pushed/pulled, one when the lever is moved forward/backward, the other when the lever is moved left/right. The Isuzu box has 2 levers (one on top, one on right side) for each cable, to select the gears.
