    Cool 4BD1T expected HP

Okay, so all of us interested folks, running 4BD1T's in our Landy's, know we're getting some half decent horse power out of these engines, but has anyone done a dyno after they've adjusted up the fuel?. I'm pretty keen to do a dyno next week after I 'adjust' a slipping clutch (is a ceramic available?). What kind of HP would I expect from a standard 4DB1T, both at the wheels, and at the flywheel?.........and anyone care to take a guess at what sort of HP/TQ figures I should get out of my positively fuel adjusted engine?......sorry, no prizes

I don't have a dyno, but I do have a large man made viaduct with a known slope. That lets me calculate power and torque to the ground but only for certain speed/load combinations.

From that I have 75kw at the ground at 2000rpm in 4th gear. If you assume 35% driveline loss then that's 535Nm. My 275mm Isuzu clutch is holding up fine, but it's a new plate with flywheel faced and pressure plate buffed up.

The factory fuel pump in 105kw 4BD1T like mine is calibrated to provide around 60 cc per thousand shots.
External adjustments can allow it to deliver 140 cc/thousand shots. Well over twice the stock fuelling which gives you over double the stock torque if you can get enough air in.

Enough air to burn 140cc per thousand shots cleanly is around 24psi with a very good intercooler. Carcrafter22 on 4btswaps did that with a Holset turbo and front mount intercooler.

Hi Gerry, I haven't dynoed mine yet, but it feels like 500Nm or close to. I drive lots of chipped Td5's, with supposedly 440 odd Nm and mine will wheelspin inside wheels on corners without much provocation...

Thanks for the info guy's, I want to get mine on the dyno once I get this clutch done. While I had the gearbox/Tranny case out I checked a number of other things. Rear output shaft......anyone seen this before?. My feeling is its been there for while........and the last pic is of a thankfully oil free rear main.

Going by that, you might like to replace the cross pins in the centre diff. Or better, get a one piece cross pin.

Okay John, you've got me interested, how would I source one of these, and would you also advise replacing the needle bearings with the tapered bearings for longevity on the intermediate shaft?.

jacmac makes single piece cross shafts for centre diff pinions. Mal used to make them at Maxi-Drive.

Cross pin failure is not uncommon.

Thrust bearing failure (greatest weakness in LT95, followed by centre diff) is cured by the taper roller conversion.

What the torque of a 4BD1 can do to the running gear

I noticed you may have a water to air inter cooler there. I was wondering what make is it and who supplies them

Mine has been dynoed but figures not that impressive as not set up correctly yet. Needs an inter cooler.

    Cheers Tony
