    Transfer case wont stay in

Hi out there, after some info on my 85 county with the 3.9 t & intercooled with the 4 speed box. Thats what I have. NOW the problem: It slipped out of high range ages ago, put it back in high fixed, out 4wding the other weekend nothing to drastic never got out of high. Then out of the blue she jumps out of high & low wont stay in either. No noise, whines, haven't got stuck on anything? In other words HELP.
    Any info would be great

P.S. if any ex appyys out there, who knew/knows Tom Lowndes 24th VM. He is not the best with cancer.

Transfer case wont stay in high or lo range

My 85 3.9t & intercooled County for some reason just refuses to stay in high/lo? Its happened a few times ages ago not a problem. Then all of a sudden it just wont stay in. Went fwdriving a couple of weeks ago all in high not a worry? Didn't get hung up on anything, had anything jammed up under the veh, no whines, noises???? So if anyone can help or suggest something it would be great.

It is possible for the "selector finger" to become loose on its shaft, it is also possible for the rear selector fork to become loose on the shaft - both are only held by pinch bolts.

More seriously, I have encountered a problem with the intermediate gear assembly - the hi-lo dogs are coupled by pins through the intermediate gear, which are rivetted to these dogs. In my case about half of these pins broke, but the symptom was it became impossible to get out of high.

I would be inclined to remove either the top plate (preferred but harder to get to!) or (drain oil) the bottom plate, and see what is going on.

    Hope this helps,

    transfer case

Thanks Guys, I've got a mate calling round this arvo, who is more mechanically minded than me (I'm not) so dump the
oil ect ect, to see what surprises it holds.
I know how long is a piece of string? What sort of work required to fix? Removal or repaired insitu? What sort of costs min to max (ballpark ?) Could it take long & last but not least are parts still avail? If so where is the best place to buy? I live at Tallarook, Victoria.

    Thank you again Guys.

Depending what is wrong, it can probably be fixed in situ. Obviously, how long depends on what is wrong.

Parts will be available, but some may be fairly pricey. I would get them from Fred Smith in Wantirna if it were mine.

See similar thead in the FC section. My LT95 would not stay in low range and I noticed the external lever on the side of the box was touching bodywork.

I took the top plate off the tfr case and adjusted the selector fork. It is just clamped to the cross selector bar ans must have moved just a little - loosened and readjusted and now OK - 10 min job on the 101 as you can get at everything.

If it is not this easy fix then there are bigger problems.
