Steering is out to be upgraded
Rear diff is GM14b DRW
Front diff Dana 44
Reckon it was blowin about 30 knots too
Suzi reckons we'll get cold feet
Just found the thread on Outers,
If I can make a suggestion, and it might not be an easy conversion, i'd replace the entire steering setup for a later model one.
Those early ones were a #### of an idea with the steering box mounted back in the engine bay, relay rod and bell crank.
The later ones, staring around '68 or so used a Saginaw pattern box (made by Gemmer) at the front of the chassis with the pitman arm connecting directly to the drag link.
Much, much better steering with minimal losses (play)
I used to replace the Gemmer boxes with HQ-WB Holden ones.
They are a direct bolt in, you just use the Jeep pitman arm and are an easy way to get power steering.
The LC g/box and particularly the t/case are miles too weak for what you want. Good choice keeping the Isuzu box.
The old D20 T/case is up to it, but something like a late model Patrol case might be better, just for ease of supply, and as Gwagensteve said on Outers, probably easier to divorce it, you have enough tailshaft length to do it without upsetting angles.
Anyone know/seen the t/case under some of the Isuzu 4WD trucks ?
Maybe that is an easier way to go (can't recall which side it takes the front from though )
<edit> Again, what rear diff is in it ? The L/C t/case takes off the rear offset like a Land Rover, Jeep are centred.

I played with the gearbox before it went in and made some notes.
No overdrive 5 speed.
Type BG5 A
Speedo 17
Gears 6
Prod No. 9Y18039
It's all moving forwards 30mm and maybe down a little.
But it's close.
Is it uncool to post the same info on two forums?
Looking good!
Did you find somewhere to attach mounts to?
Those wheels look small - what size are they???
What ratios do you have in there???

That is a bugger - the tallest compatable ratio is 3.73.
If you swap to a Dana 60 rear, you could fit a 3.54 from a Land Rover Defender rear (I have one you could have very cheaply), and buy a 3.54 for the D44.
Thanks for the links.
The mounts are happening on the weekend. No real drama for the engine mounts. Gearbox could be more fun.
Those tyres are temperary, it was an easy way to help the old motor a bit.
I'm thinking the back tyres will be 8.00x16
Not sure what ratio's I have now.
How do I work out my ideal ratio?
I'm told the 14b is pretty strong, but someones had issues with this one.
Talk about kill ground clearance. Up close it looks like the passerger side tube has come apart a bit from the pumpkin.
None of the pics show but it's dual rear wheels. Thanks for the Dana60 offer, but I want to stick with the duals?
1st fuel tank is just in front of the diff, then a water tank then the 2nd fuel tank up the back. The chassis has been extended out the back so departure angle is average too.
I'm pretty sure the rear end on my old J3000 was a dually D60 out of an Inter or Dodge, not a Jeep one.
I ran a single 8"x15" Sunraysia with 11.5 x 15's on the rear but it was eight stud, etc, etc. so it had two different stud patterns front and back.
I'm carrying 2 spares. 10r's on the front that will soon be, 33x9.50r15 which I already have under the house. Rear is something small at the moment but 8.00x16 are the same height as the 33's so I'll try and find them, reckon it'll help with the gearing to go as tall on the rear as will fit. Two spares is a drag but I don't want skinnies on the front.
