    4BD1 Alternator Replacement - Canada

    Hi Guys,

A friend in Canada has an Australian spec '86 Isuzu County. The alternator died and his local auto electrician can't get it apart. Apparently he has destroyed the pulley trying to remove it and reckons getting a replacement would be the best option. I know a few people here have found cost effective replacements from various sources and have upgraded at the same time.

A quick search on eBay in the States leads to a guy selling possible replacements but at almost too good to be true prices (eg US$124).

Does anyone here have experience or suggestions that might help?

    Cheers,
    Dave.

There seem to be quite a few Isuzu trucks with 4BD1T engines in the USA. They may be re-badged by GM. These are all 12V (not 24V like in Australia).

That would be the GMC4000 (As I emailed Chris a while back). US equivalent of the NPR/NKR. Didn't know they were 12V though!!! That is handy.

So an alternator from any mid-late 80's GMC4000 diesel (some were petrol) should fit.

    Thanks Guys.

Ben, I'll remind Chris that you emailed him the info - his email and information management system is sometimes a bit lacking. Having said that, his liquor cabinet more than makes up for it

Any idea as to whether the stuff on eBay in the US is worth buying?
