as far as I am aware and according to the web they are the same pump for both engines.
Sorry not much help
some oil pump questions :P
1) anyone know if there is a difference between the turbo engine oil pump and non turboed engine oil pump ?
2) anyone know if there is a high volume oil pump available for them ?
2a) and if so, where can i get one ?
3) can you just drop the sump to replace the pump ?

I don't know if there are differences between na and turbo oil pumps or of higher capacity pumps.
Perhaps a 6BD1 pump would fit and give higher capacity - I asked a question on this and had no replies.
I do know that there are differences in the style of strainers between year models of 4BD1T, but you can probably swap what ever strainer you have back in to be confident it suits your sump.
Yes the pump can be changed when the sump is removed.
There is a difference between the NA and Turbo oil pumps. The NA has what they call a thochoid type oil pump and the Turbo has a normal spur gear type. I should clarify that this is the case on originally fitted Landrover NA motors (which are an industrial motor modified for use in the Land Rover). NA Automotive motors from trucks have spur type gears like the Turbo. I dont know whether there is any difference in oil flow capacity or whether they are interchangeable - I would imagine they are as so many of the differences between the motor versions are just bolt ons. I have never heard of a high volume oil pump for them and I dont think they need it as oil pressure always seems to be good even when the motor is getting old. As John said just drop the sump, take off the oil pump cover plate from the LH side of engine and undo the retaining bolt and it comes out underneath. If you are looking at reconning the pump Grant Draney at GWD enterprises at Caboolture has new surplus Army pumps (trochoid type internals) for sale..............Brian
gwd has no more oil pumps, might have some gears left but he isnt sure...
oh well would have been easy 5klm drive :P

Yea they are a diffenent style as said above, I imagine as said above that they are interchangable also. As far as high volume, I doubt it as most pumps bleed off pressure during general use any how. It would only help a little at idle.
Although the turbo'd blocks do have the oil injector sprayers for the piston so that's probably the reason they have the different pump, maybe they flow a bit better at low speed to allow for the extra oil volume the squirters require.
