Thanks langy , great article ,then the input shaft is the same in length for both the TDI and V8 R380 boxes ? , its only the spigott bush size that is different , Great , Im using a Holden V8 clutch / flywheel anyway .

Otherwise the diesel input shaft will need turning down or you can drill out the crank of the v8. In either case, you'll end up using the standard bush for either application. (If it was the other way round you'd have the special bush see Using a V8 R380 in a Tdi )
Im actually building myself the box, but its getting very hard to get hold of a defender r380 with the correct selector setup. Consequently i'll have to build up from a scrap defender box and a good disco box the gearbox.

I was hoping to use the standard bush but turn it down (i heard to ~1mm) and fit it to the flywheel. Otherwise I'll have to fit the v8 input shaft (which Id rather not do).

Well it appears that the input shaft is totally different between a disco R380 Diesel box and the disco R380 V8 box ,Not only the spigott shaft diameter , but also the length is somewhat shorter on the diesel , and worst of all the gearing on the first motion shaft/input shaft is also different .They are not interchangeable , so it means I need the entire V8 box to convert to a V8.

isnt all this a moot point as your not using a rover v8 anyway???? I would have thought you need something custom to suit your specific motor/gearbox choice???

Its not moot because nobody does an adapter for Diesel style Bellhousing ,so If I can only use the V8 pattern style to my Holden V8 because thats the only adapters around ,Now all I have to do is swap/buy a V8 R380 complete box.Id love to use a 4l60 T700 4speed auto , but no one does a adapter to the 230 Tcase

Thanks Rovercare , still the T700 is still more reliable and stronger than a 4HP22 , Ive allready got one from my Drag racing , suitably strengthed fully manulised with switchable lockup , wonder how it would go in a 4WD with 4000rpm stally !. LOL
You dont have a V8 R380 hanging around do you ?

Not hard to improve on a HP22

4k stall would be fun for a while.....although you'd need one big ass cooler

No luck, I know a dude with a few, but all from tdi's, I'll keep my ears open though
