I could be wrong but i think the GTX-R was also to showcase the 253 V8? As for the Efijy it's a incredible piece of engineering and shows that cars are also art.

Would certainly have been the first production Torana to be fitted with a V8. Was scheduled to be offered with either the 186 or the 253. I don't know how that fitted in with V8's in other Holden models.

Had it gone into production, would have been the first Holden product to have 4 wheel disc brakes.
    Cheers .........

Probably one of the best looking rice-burners out there ...........

This one belongs to my young bloke (he now owns the D2 as well - it was mine at the time the pics were taken).

Couldn't agree more - we have a coupe and a wagon and everybody seems to love them.

But seriously, you are looking at a car that appeared on the market in 1955 - contemporary with the FJ Holden, Ford Popular, etc - and which featured inboard disc front brakes, self levelling suspension, split, load sensing, fully powered braking system, drag coefficient right up there with the best today can offer. By contemporary standards it offered incredible ride comfort and at the same time better handling than virtually anything else on the road. And by the time it was discontinued in 1975, the only changes needed to meet safety standards were fitting seat belts and antiburst door locks.

Yep, you caught me out I did a 30second google search to get that piccie. There's 3 different shapes to the front bumpers and guards over the years. The rest of the vehicle for all intents and purposes is identical. They had a wheezy little four cylinder right to the end.... just more stainless steel "bling" screwed to it and fancier interiors.

    1st nose:

    2nd nose (my favorite):

Strangely enough, my 1963 aussie built "D" has (aussie made) seatbelts fitted front and rear with the manufacture date of 1962. I can only assume the aussie assembled cars either fitted belts from new, or they were a dealer fitted option. I would have htought seatbelts would be unheard of in 1963.

Mate that's one spectacular looking car. I reckon I've only seen one of them on the roads in the last decade. That colour and wheels suites that car perfectly.

The only ones I've seen are white or hearing aid beige .... Not at all appealing.
