Not having a go by the way, things were different back then, and the competition these days is VERY close,......I reckon the drivers these days work bloody hard & are under enormous pressure.

You're right. Things were very different.

One of the things that makes it difficult to compare sportsmen from different eras is that so many other things change.

For example, did Brock have ten safety car incidents compressing the field behind him at regular intervals?

BTW, I'm just asking, not arguing.

Did they have "Safety Cars" in those days, or just a tilt tray?

Yeah he is not happy got this from the Sydney Morning Herald.

Red Bull racing team owner Roland Dane has slammed V8 Supercars championship leader Jamie Whincup for ignoring team orders to conserve fuel and costing them victory at the Bathurst 1000. The Holden star was urged by engineer David Cauhci and team manager Mark Dutton to ease his pace in the dying stages of Sundays drama-filled race. But the four-time Bathurst winner kept pushing and extending the lead to three seconds. He eventually ran out of fuel on the 161st and final lap allowing Ford tyro Chaz Moztert to pass him for the win. Whincup coasted home in fifth. "He has won a lot of races for us,but he has lost one for us,it just happens to be the biggest one." Dane told V8 Supercars website. "One hundred per cent that was against our advice and its just not clever. And its dissapointing we didn't manage our fuel as well as we could have." says Dane.

Whincup was not sorry for running his own strategy and was happy he put on a 'good show'. "There were two options in my head: Conserve the fuel they wanted me to conserve,or go all out and try and win the race," he said. "We went all out and ended up finishing fifth." Whincup started the day in 23rd,but worked his way into the top five in just 15 laps. The result has kept him on top of the overall standings on his way to a sixth championship. Things didn't work out well for his teammate Craig Lowndes who was relegated to 10th after clipping Ford's Mark Winterbottom with 11 laps to go. He copped a drive through penalty for causing the incident that ended both their chances of victory. Lowndes said it was his fault, blaming the sun glare, and said he spoke to Winterbottom after the race.

It marked just the second time in a decade that 888 engineering, racing as Red Bull has missed the podium at Bathurst. "We win or lose collectively as a team, and there were other aspects we didn't do well enough and will have to improve," Dane said. "We were fast enough to have a 1-2 but we didn't."

Couple of races to go before the season finishes

Whincup definitely didn't do himself any favours, after disobeying team orders, but if he had won, things may be a bit different.

He also had the luxury of a multicar team with the rules allowing him to kick the driver out of one of the other cars when his broke down.

In one of his Bathurst wins he used three cars to do it.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Yes, not a fan of that rule. I don't think I could've done that.

What if he was to loose the champonship because of the difference in the points between 2nd or 3rd & 5th then he may do as he is told
