Mk I lotus cortina - the deal was my dad paid the insurance I paid for the car, so in 1972 I bought it, cost me GBP248.00 the insurance cost him GBP250.00 - he wasn't happy, but it was a deal

I spent more time under the bonnet trying to ballance the carbs than I did driving the bloody thing until I converted it to a webber DCOE.

I still have the car ................yep 35 years later, it's in storage in the UK

after that an assortment of decent cars and bangers ranging from renault 5's to Jag XJ's, and for a short time a nice, but expensive to run Rolls R shadow.

Gained licence at 17 in 1984

1st - Datsun 1600, put in a 180B SSS motor and had heaps of fun pretending to be a rally driver, after numerous oops I sold it off after 6 months to someone that actually did rally a 1600 for spares.

2nd - 1973 Mini 1100 S....only owned it for 6 weeks when some clown went throug a red light into the side of me and wrote it off.

3rd - Mini Cooper S. Spent way to much money on making this car go faster...still own it to this day, now in it's 3rd rebuild

4th - HK Premier. Immaculate, original car that I put a 350 chev in and promptly lost my licence, so sold it.

5th - 1980 RS2000...I managed to keep this one almost stock, owned it for 8years until some low life thought he needed it more then me.

    Various other cars after these

Currently I have a GU Patrol for touring and an '82 Rangie for playing...and a 100 series work car.

    Licence at 18 - 2001

    1. XF wagon, I fitted an EL XR6 motor 5 spd and slippery into, GREAT first car, lost my licence 4 times, couldn't count back tyres.....Should have seen some looks on peoples faces after being shut down by a great white fridge Finally mellowed a little in driving after 2 years an ran through an intersection counting cows in a paddock (not paying attention)

    2. 1976 2 Door, still have it, except its been reborn 3 times now, its a tray and has a 351 about to be supercharged

    3. EF XR6, bought to sell

    4. ED XR8 sprint, It appears i hadn't mellowed out enough, after i had a little run with the fuzz

    5. 1988 4 Door, 6.2 chev wrecked it after 12 months, was bought so I couldn't be a big hoon

    6. 1971 Jaguar XJ6, I've just put a 5.7l LS1 (with cam and springs) and transmission out of a VX SS in it and should be on the road next week

Plus over 20 Falcon wrecks and 15 Range Rover wrecks

Oh and I'm halfs in an XE ute with a mate, that's benn around for about 4 years, floating from person to person

Got my Ls at 16 in 1985

    First was a 1967 2A Hardtop, bought 1988 sold around 2000
Second was a 1969 2A Hardtop, don't remember when, it was bought for parts for the other 2A but I drove it for three months til the rego ran out.
    Third was a 1971 2A Station Wagon 1997 - 1999
    Forth is a 98 Defender 1999 - now.

Never had any other type of car, never wanted one.

Had plenty of bikes though, GSX250, Ducati Darmah, BSA A10, another BSA A10, Z1300, XS1100, Triumph Sprint, TS185, two C90s, GSX-R 750, JR50, two Suzuki Bandits and a Ducati RT250. And my race sidecar.

I just wish mine was a) originally this tidy, and b) still alive.

It died a death of phonepole interuptus. Had a mate helping me do the diff (again, they were made of cheese) and he forgot to do up the wheel bolts on his side beyond finger tight.

Some ***** had the nerve to honk at the rear passenger side wheel as it rolled through the intersection. I hate both the honker and the mate!

1960 - 12 years old, I bought a Morris Z trayback ute for 5 pounds (in Calamvale). I picked strawberries for months to raise that - I received 6d per one-gallon tin (5 cents/5 litres).

It cost me another fiver for the battery.

Imagine this as a wooden traybacked ute:

My next car, at 15, was a Renault 4CV.

When I was 16 I bought a 1938 Vauxhall Model J 14hp and drove it unlicenced and unregistered from Brisbane to Sydney (in 1964).
