Good luck to her, I hope everything turns out well.

She is very lucky to get a ranger job Jim. I wanted to do that years ago. We just could afford to do the corses.

It will be a good but very long drive for her husband & daughter.

How's mrs Aus going all settling down for her.

She tried for several Ranger's jobs in NSW but couldn't even get an interview. She has the qualifications but no practical experience, so when this job came up she applied for it and against stiff opposition from other applicants, she got it. It will give her much needed hands on experience so if she wants to come back, she will have a better chance of getting a local job.

The long drive for her hubby is not a problem, they have a Toyo Prado and a caravan which they used on their recent trip around Australia.

Mrs Aus is coming along fine, the gums are slowly healing and she is gradually moving onto more solid food. She is getting sick of soup and stuff. She has another appointment late next week, to check on her progress.

How Not to Spend a Weekend!

    Hello All,

I have three job application "acknowledgements" sitting in my Inbox after spending part of yesterday and the majority of today applying for three vacancies.

It should be interesting what blazing errors and minor stuff-ups dwell within the applications since I cannot see properly. The applications even had the pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey type little boxes where I had to fill in information - now that was fun - NOT

The applications were those start from scratch and answer 7 Essential Selection Criteria and 7 Desirable Selection Criteria.

One good thing about all the jobs is that at least they clearly state the pay rates. Unlike most of the Community Sector based jobs. Also all three jobs are research based and in an area very, very close to my own postgraduate study and research interests.

Well I am now going to do some blind-mechanics on one of my Land Rovers to prevent me from going I think I have already done enough of that today while applying for jobs.

Oh well cross fingers. It is just like the lottery; you have to be in it to win it.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    G'day Ausfree,

The acknowledgements were the good old robot-driven auto responses. They are to let one know that the application has bounced itself to the right place in the electron jungle.

Today sometime before 11:59 pm is the closing date/time for the applications. Well at least I think it is because the site just said closing 6th of July and no exact time given.

At least the applications were completed and sent. Yesterday it was hard to get motivated and I went for lots of walks around the yard. I frequently said rude words before I got up off my chair to go for the walk

Today I just had less walks... Probably more

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

It's funny about jobs. I don't think I have ever filled in an application for a job. Just rang & booked an interview time. I guess I am one of the lucky ones when it comes to finding work. With all the jobs I have had up till me doing the trucks. I've just walked out of one job straight into another.

I hope it all works out for you Lionel.

On the other hand I've finished removing the central wall in the shed. And I may have solved the storage problem. I'm trying to get another chassis or if I have to another complete car. I'm going to cut the centre of the chassis out & put some heavy duty castor wheels on it. So I can put the body on it once I've painted it all. That way I can build the car in the shed & finish off the wiring everything on the cab other then the guards bonnet & grill. Then I will do all the brake lines on my chassis so all I have to do is lift the cab off cut chassis onto Harry's chassis all done. Mite need a help for that or I maybe able to use the hoist. Will have to wait see. & wait see if I can find something. We found a complete car on gumtree for $500 Ono but don't know if it's a long or short wheelbase. It's in Newcastle so we emailed them & just have to wait to see if they get back to us. If not we will txt them as we think there was a mobile number in the add. I'm still tinkering in the shed cleaning up & finding spots for everything it's nearly all done then into painting. But I thought the chassis idea was a good one. Anyway will see what happens.

G'Day Lionel. Yeah, I knew what you meant when you said "acknowledgements" that's why I answered with "responses".

Jason, I think the days of walking into a business and introducing yourself and getting a job on a handshake are over. Nowadays it's all about qualifications, certificates and all the rest of the crap that goes with it. Plus being able to bull**** on a resume.

If you need a hand Jason, as long as it's not really heavy lifting, let me know. Only too happy to help. Unfortunately, my back is not the best (two pinched nerves) so I can do light to moderate lifting, if I'm careful.

Well that local Landy has been sold so on the look out for a chassis or complete Landy.
Karen found out she still gets her supplement payments so should be able to get ahead of things now.

Hey Jase, walking back to work this afternoon, I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked into the carpark and saw a..........

    YELLOW

    FJ HOLDEN

It belongs to one of the Shift supervisors and he has owned it for ten years. He tells me it's all original with the grey motor, 6 volt electrics and cross ply tyres. It's a 1953 model Business Sedan.
I asked him what's it like to drive on crossplys and he said "all over the road".

I mentioned to him to give me warning next time he brings it in as I want to get some piccies.

Gee, it brought back memories of my first car....a 1955 FJ Holden Special Sedan.

I was weak at the knees.
