Hendrik, would your bar be strong enough to support twin wheel carriers with stub axles inserted through and welded into the bar itself.
I've had a couple of requests for wheel carriers for D2's (dual & single) with the standard bumper, but I haven't had the time to design anything. A replacement bar is a much better option. I make all the carrier components so it probably wouldn't take too long to sort something out to integrate into your bar.
It's just a thought at this stage anyway.
Just one question.......what is the distance from the back of the bar to the top trim, ie how much flat surface is there to play with (see pic below)
My hubs are 70mm dia.

The clearance you indicate would be ideal, however the problem is the tail light inside the bar, I guess I could let the bar sit out a bit more and then there should be enough clearance to fit the hub inside the bar.
The bar should be strong enough to hold two wheels, if not I can always go to a 4mm wall. I have limited experience with wheel carriers, but I was going to try to simplify it a little. My question to you is whether it is really necessary to have a hub and bearing set up. Wouldn't a hub with a nylon bush be able to take the weight of the wheel and still provide sufficient smooth movement of the carrier?
I will keep your kits in mind, as they are very well designed and you have a good reputation and who knows I can always get wheel carrier kits from you and adapt them on my bar....it will save me a lot in labour time.

The stub axle that would go through the bar is only 40mm and the hub which would sit above the bar is 70mm. The tail light could possibly still be a problem, but with dual carriers you need the stubs pretty close to the ends, so hopefully it would work.
Yes, a nylon bush would be fine as far as load bearing and smooth operation, but would be more vulnerable to dust etc and would eventually wear. The tapered bearing type setup is sealed from dust and torqued up allowing zero movement. With very minimum maintenance over the years, you should never wear the bearings out.

Hello,
We own a '02 Series 2 Disco & I made a rear bar for it in my shed. I made it because I couldn't find a nice looking bar or anyone to make me one for a reasonable price. I kept the same shape as the original bar, I cut out the rear quarter panels by about 7 inches & welded side protectors onto the bar. I can actually jack the car up from this.
I put a jerry can holder on it with a swing arm plus other features. If you want to have a gander look it up on youtube - just type in LIFTY1234 which is my channel & there's 2 videos of me making it & completing it.
If anyone has any questions, I am happy to answer them.
