yes i had same problem with my 6x6 here in queensland and the weight of it.
i pulled seat out of it and spare wheels off the roof and under to get it down to 3.6t so i was under light truck. mine was troop carrier thou and all up i got 600kgs in weight off the old girl, there was 263kgs in the 2 roll bars alone *laughs*
I had no trouble with registering mine. It weighed in at 4t with a GVM of 5.6t.
It breezed through the registration process. Even got custom plates.
The hardest thing I found was getting to drive the thing as so many others wanted a go.

You don't need any modification plate. What have you modified?
Someone is telling you porkies. The weights above fall well within the design criteria for the 6x6 and it is ADR complianced at these weights.Quote:

Colin explained that I needed an engineers plate and that there is no way around it. Colin put me onto an absolute gentleman by the name of Mick Dudley from ASRC Engineering (0414586027) and he came out and had a look at this beast. He was amazed, but knew exactly what was needed as he was in contact with one of the engineers that worked on building these units in Moorebank. Mick then checked that all the seat belts were up to standard, the retaining bolts of the sashes were class 8 high tensiles, a head rest was installed for the supervisors seat and some padding was wrapped around the framing of the top fold-down beds as well as some other minor repairs, mods and installs. A week later he came out with the engineers documentations and an engineer plate for a light truck to seat 11. The vehicle was described as a light truck bus due to its tare weight being 4.56t. It was explained to me that they allow approx 75kg per person + luggage of approx. 8kg making it approx 83kg per person and for 11 people it was an extra 900 odd kg's. (If this is incorrect or I have missunderstood it, can someone please shed some light on this)
At this stage of time, I am now ready to see Colin at AFM to get a blue slip for an 11 seater ambo which has been scheduled for tomorrow morning. If all goes well then its down hill from there and the path to registration should be easy from there. Hoping to get a set of personalised plates for it as well...... hopefully!!
I suspect that my problems stemmed from the fact that I purchased the vehicle from VIC, OH well........... I did want an ex-military ambo
Thanks for that explanation. You're right, it did need a modification plate.
Your problems, however, stemmed from the fact you wanted it registered as a 11 seater and not a 2 seater.
All the Perentie 6x6's are classified as a light truck as their GVM is 5.6t. Some have had their Perentie 6x6's engineered to a lower GVM so they can register them as a off road passenger vehicle.

Thanks for that, all of the Nsw ones I've seen are regoed as 2 seaters be they 4 or 6 wheels. Only the 4 door commanders got 5 seats, when even some of them had 9 . Other softies had up to 11 seats but only blue slipped for 2 .Quote:

Interesting fact I learnt today while I was at AFM getting my blue slip, is that the troop carrier 6x6 that has the 8 seats in the back can actually be engineered to allow passengers to travel in the back even with the soft top removed.

After modifying the exhaust in order to pass the blue slip for the vehicle, I finally managed to get the blue slip authorised and signed off. This morning I received the blue slip along with the weigh ticket, engineers certificate and receipt of purchase which looked like a bunch of papers that you would prepare and take to a court case for a hearing. All I needed now is a CTP (green slip). I got on the net and googled perentie ctp insurance and I saw an article that mentioned NRMA being helpful. Called NRMA and they were hopeless. The operator was extremely helpful until she got stuck on the shape of the vehicle even though the blue slip has classified it as a BUS, and that it was a 6x6. She contacted the underwriters and they could only give me a ctp if it was classified as a medium truck and the cost was $1,800+. The operator was very apologetic that she couldn't help even though I hold a number of policies with NRMA. I then called around and the prices kept on dropping. Allianz was $922, AAMI was $917, GIO was $914 and then I got onto Shannons. Shannons was great as they knew the vehicle and how to classify it. The only way you got a CTP from Shannons though was to combine it with a Comprehensive policy. The CTP was just over $600 and the comprehensive was about $1,400 so a total of $2k it was worth getting a full insurance and ctp. By 4pm I had all the paperwork in order to get my rego so I headed into RMS to get my rego only to find out my VIN No is non existent in the Australian VINS unit. In other words, this vehicle does not exist and RMS cannot register a vehicle that the VIN is not on the civilian motor vehicle registry. Th girl behind the desk took a photocopy of all my documents and explained that she will need to investigate further and call me when she learns something on how to download the VIN of my Perentie onto the Australian VINS Unit.
Now its a waiting game:( ............... thats if I dont get palmed off to another unit/agency and be asked to jump more hoops or pay for more documents.
WOW:mad:, talk about issues in registering this unit.
Oh well, ill see how I go tomorrow i guess!!!
