Hi all,
What do you use for the main lighting around your campsite?
I have various LED strip lights which are good for the enclosed area inside but not so much for outside. They are not bright enough. They're from Jaycar but I can't find them on their website.
I want something that will be bright enough to be able to read and play board games etc.
Years ago I used to use an old 40 watt single tube 240v fluoro and an inverter but that was fairly power hungry however it did turn night into day.
Anyway tell us what you use.

we mainly use 12v fluros best ever i recommend them over anything else
Versalite or similar flouro lights. Very little power draw and safe around kids. No mantles to break and no hot lights for kids to knock over/touch.

as thay said, fluros or LEDs. i have made up a 12V cord that runs to the tent with 3 lighter socket plugs, 1 for inside 1 out side and one for a headlight i got from U pullit, i only use the headlight for reading or when some thing is losed, seems to be the best of both worlds, enought light for every thing and easy on the battery.
we now use the 300 lumen LED lights sold by Anaconda and Kathmandu with rechargeable D cells in, the Versa lite hasn't been out of its cover bag for over a year as a result and lives under the seat as the 'in case' option.
Fluoros & a petrol, double mantle Coleman lantern for the ambiance.

Being 'old school' I use 12V fluoros run by the alternator on the bush freezer but I also have an 800W generator with a couple of 240 lead lights if I need to do some reading.
There was a guy at Fraser from another club - had a double tube 240v fluro mounted on the side of his roof rack - run by inverter (surely that would flatten a battery pretty quick?) or a gennie he says sometimes.
Was eye scaldingly bright, in comparison to everything else in a beach camp !
Spenboyd any chance of a link to the lights yo mean - I;ve yet to see any decent lights of the type you describe.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Vlad that is what I used to do without the generator. Bloody bright but the 240v fluoros are too heavy to hang from a ridge pole. Well the full size ones are anyway. I just want to use solar and batteries.
I'll check out the Versa light.
Maybe I should look into a lightweight 240v fluoro too and see how much current they actually draw using an inverter. Maybe they aren't too bad?
Not sure about 240v and wet weather though. Never had a problem when I used to use it though.
Not keen on having to use battery powered devices as in D cell. Just more batteries to replace. I'll still check them out though.
