Is a safety check required for a camper trailer?

I've got a 7x5m box trailer and every year in NSW I have to get a (blue slip) safety check done before I can renew the registration. Frustrates the hell out of me it's just a bog standard box trailer for heavens sake.

I've just moved back to NSW from QLD and our Adventure Offroad Camper trailer will need registering in NSW and getting rid of the QLD plates.

Do you know if a safety check (blue slip is required)

I've always wondered if Caravans need a blue slip every year as well

    Cheers

My 10'x5' box trailer without brakes never needs a rego check, let alone a blue slip. My 950 kg van ex Vic needs a blue slip to get registered in NSW.

If a trailer in NSW has brakes it needs a safety check (pink slip) annually. If not, not. (I have one of each)

The box trailer doesn't have brakes yet the rego slip always says inspection required.

That suggests to me that the RTA thinks it does have brakes, possibly because the weight is wrong in the documents. They don't always get it right (they think my 2a is a trayback because Landrover did not make any other sort of ute in 1970!) - best of luck in getting it changed!

Any trailer registered in NSW if over 400Kg tare needs a PINK slip (about $20) each year.
I have my rego document in front of me which shows GVM 700Kg and "inspection Required".It doesn't have brakes.

I was wrong its 250KG tare.

    Safety checks for trailers

    • Trailers under 250kg do not require a safety check.
    • Schedules of fees for light and heavy vehicles applies to trailers.

From RTA site search of "light trailer Safety check".

In Qld, trailers that do not gross over 750 do not need inspections. Even the initial inspection on new trailer is a self assessment. Over 750 (GVM) require inspectional at every ownership change only. eg, if you sell it with rego, it must have a RWC.

PhilipA is correct, in NSW if your trailer weighs over 250kgs. braked or unbraked it needs a yearly inspection (pink slip) and fee, mine is around $150 p/a, a rip off if there ever was one. So now I'm trying to get my Army trailer below 250kg, it weighs now , just chassis bare 290kgs and I have to fit guards and mud flaps to comply, gunna be a tough ask, Regards Frank.

How much do the wheels and tyres weigh? Maybe borrow a set of light 15" alloys and fit tyres as small as possible?
