    Home Built Trailers

I am in the early stage of planing a home built off road trailer. I have found some plans to use...

Trailer Plans - Plan Build Save

These plans are setup to use the Cruise Master coil suspension. Which I just got a quote on $2245.00.

    Cruisemaster® Independent Coil Suspension

Next is the steel for the trailer... Has anyone built a trailer? I am curious on how much your steel for the build cost.

I see in the pictures that the trailer has bracing under the draw bar. Make sure that anything welded to the draw bar like that is welded to the SIDE of the bar, not the BOTTOM.

I looked at making my own, but in the end bought one of the ex raaf track trailers.

The entire trailer cost me only 5$ more than the cruismaster suspension quote you have, and it has the Track MC2 suspension which is regarded to be the best trailer off road suspesion you can get.

I have spent a bit of time, money and effort getting the suspension blasted and re powder coated, along with new bearings and electric brakes so its like new now

I have a thread with the progress here

Be curious to know if its available and price..

A refurb will be much cheaper than a build...

There will be more Track trailers disposed of from the ADF.

That depends on where the strengthening is required. I braced underneath my 3m single axle which has its the axle well back to overcome bounce when a lot of the weight was in the front of the trailer.

No it doesn't. The bottom of the A frame is under tension in the vertical plane. You don't weld on the bottom of a member in tension as it introduces a stress raiser. I was told this by an extremely experienced structural engineer, I have no reason to doubt his word.
