How did you get a wheel alignment on a solid axle or a toe-in for that matter, or is it an independent set-up with adjustable suspension, Regards Frank.
Howdy,
Just had a wheel alignment done on my old Viscount single axle trailer after blowing two tyres in a trip back from down south.. just as well as it had a toe-in of 16mm- no wonder it felt like a dead weight towing around.. Bloke reckons it must of had a blow to the axle at some point before I acquired it..
Had it done at Big Wheels Alignments (I have no affiliation) and just talking to the technician was surprised at how common incorrect wheel alignments are even on box trailers.. something I had previously never considered..
Money well spent in preperation of my trip up the the Kimberley.
Cheers,

Basically, in my case, they used a Port-a-pak Hydraulic ram and added pressure to the front of the wheels whilst heating the rear of the axle gently.. as the axle cools, it contracts and sets itself back where they want it. Carefully controlled, the heating/cooling doesn't change the strength of the axle. This was done with the axle in situ.
If it is too badly bent for the above treatment, they can also remove the axle entirely and roll it on a press to re-straighten but it is usually more cost effective to just replace the axle with a new one. The bloke (Gary, I think) at the Forrestfield workshop was very upfront with it all and gives you the options before doing the work.

We "aligned" a overlay axle from a caravan for the local truck alignment place a while ago. He pulled it out and came around and told us how far he wanted it moved and where. 60T press done the rest.
It looked bent when he bought it around and didn't look that straight when we pressed it to what he wanted, but he latter said it was spot on when refitted and set up on the aligner again![]()
The axle would have to be bent outside of the spring saddles, between the spring saddle and the end of the stub axle. Is that where they bent/heated the axle, because if it was bent in the middle of the axle it would place stresses on the leaf springs and shackles, Regards Frank.
Its amazing how many people dont realize how important looking after a trailer is, I was watching a bloke on the highway yesterday and all i can imagine is that his trailer had been either built incorrectly or had been whacked bad enough to bend the shackles back on one side, the trailer was trying to run away, It was literally jumping from left to right no mater what speed he was doing. It was a little scary being near it.
