I would think that if off road down hill with over run brakes that's a good call.
Most people go with electric brakes above this weight which eliminates the "push factor".
I'm thinking if you consider electric brakes maybe the bar can be moved a little???

    Cheers, Kyle.
I looked at moving the bar a little sideways...

I looked at upgrading my CUB to a Daintree LE (I think) because it had a higher rating and brakes. I quickly changed my mind when they wanted $20,000 changeover and it didn't have the full annex like mine. It also has the same canvas as mine, minus annex of course..

My 700kg off road in the Victorian high country wasn't a problem for the old Pathfinder so I think the Disco will romp it in..

I had a look around the Leisure Show today

I finally got to see the New Avan Aliner Adventure + and looks interesting.
According to the Compliance Plate, Tare is 1050 Kg and Max Axle Group Weight is 1200 Kg.

So if I understand the weight thing:

    Max Weight: Axle Group 1200 + 10% Tow Ball Weight 120 = 1320.

Payload: Max Weight 1320 - Tare 1050 = 270 kg No places for fuel cans.

$35950 but does have nice specifications..

    Avan Adelaide

Also noticed Off Road Caravans and Off Road Hybrids very similar in price but not size or features..

Have heard Avans are not so good off road, dust ingress and exterior panel delimitation.
I reckon one of those South African Jurgens like Tombie has would be worth looking at.

(apparently brake parts are an issue here ) everything is a compromise.

So the salesman says the new "Adventure +" pack adds a bigger chassis, bigger hinges and stronger cabinet fittings etc..

It'd want to for $35950 up from $24500.

Agreed the South Efrican Xplorer looks the goods but a little heavy in weight and dollars for my use/budget. There is one on You Tube pushing a 100 Series all over the place due to weight off road.

I did look at the Oryx but they seemed a little small.

Asked the Jurgens dealer at the show why they didn't bring them in and she did't know. Just looked at the link and the Xcape is the same weight as the Avan.... Wonder if there are any in Australia????

Brake parts are easy to get, several dealers / former dealers still stock them.

    Plus there is an importer..

This guy Home imports units direct from SA and gets them ADR compliant and registered...

As for the units themselves - FANTASTIC....

Don't believe no one has mentioned the Echo Kavanga, fits nearly all of your criteria except weight, but they are lightest of the serious off road. And they come with everything, even cutlery.

After much looking through every for sale web site I found something on Gumtree.

A Royal Flair Mini Sport Off Road.. Tare weight 500 Kg and GVM 930kg. So gives me 430 kg of cargo. Advertised as the worlds smallest caravan.

She's old and needs work but fits most of the requirements and my carport....

Some of the good stuff, simplicity independent suspension, engineered for extra height & strength.

So the fun begins, Checked brakes (ok) & bearings (one buggered so new ones all round) and removed some crap off the drawbar to make room for the Disco rear door. Also saves a bit of drawbar weight.
