Thread: What hitch for a CUB off-road camper?

I have been using a TREG hitch on my CUB from the time I got sick of the rattling ball hitch. So just after I bought it.

I have dragged my cub through the centre of Australia twice and did a lap around Mount Buller (Craig's Hut Area) in the Victorian High Country.

I liked the TREG hitch so much I put one on my enclosed bike trailer too. It doesn't go off road but it doesn't rattle on the ball ether now..

Not sure about the D3 but works fine on the X-Trail, Pathfinder , Landcruiser (not mine) and now the Disco 2. PS mine is mounted under the drawbar to level the trailer.

Am i happy with it? Yes and will swap again if I upgrade the CUB.

Tregg hitches are fine and once you have connected one up a couple of times they are pretty easy to do as well. we have one on our van, but I would prefer a McHitch.

However our van would weight over a ton more than your Cub and its a dual axle, which means its hard to move / push sideways if required to when connecting up compared to a Cub.

Yep. Ride height for the camper will be near perfect.

Edit: sorry, it's a D3. If the tow setup is the same as on the D4 it will be near perfect........

We had a Treg hitch on our camper for 11yrs, great hitch, but as the D3 hitch is so low, you may need to flip the tongue to get thing up and level.

Maybe invest in a D4 hitch istead of the Mitch Hitch, much cheaper option.

We have the McHitch and Mitch Hitch, works a treat.

I spoke to Cub about this. They say that the trailer rides level when the bottom face of their hitch rides at 460mm off the ground.

The D3 hitch with the tongue up is at 390mm, So 70mm short.

I've toyed with the idea of the Mitch Hitch a lot. I like the idea of eliminating the rattle that that offers, but its starting to be a pretty close run thing, especially for the $$$ involved.

I'll investigate Redback's suggestion and look into a D4 hitch. That might be the answer.
