Well it's done, finally have the hubs, rims and new tyres, i have been away to test out the handling as the back space is alot different to the old 15"Ford rims and i was a bit worried they were to close to the inner guard and the track was narrower, but all is well in fact it now has the same wheel track as the Disco, the trailer wheels follows the the disco exactly and they look good too. Oh yeah, it would be better to have the Landy wheels on the camper when you purchase it and not change them yourself.
$350 to have the hubs made and $600 for rims and tyres.
I had the hubs made at Melbourne trailer & caravan suppliers, after they stuffed up the first ones by making them to widethey finally made the right ones but not after some complaining to the boss.
The hubs on the trailer were Ford stud pattern so i figured that making them in the Disco II stud pattern would be easy, oh no, not that easy this was the only place i found that would do it and the thing is that the DII has the same stud pattern as the Commadore just a differant thread and stud size 14mm over the Holdens 12mm.
I sent the size of the hubs to him 9"x 2" now this is the standard size for drum brake hubs at AL-CO so thats what i thought would be made and sent to me, well what turned up were 9"x 2&1/2 wide inner dimentions, now this would of been fine if there was a brake that fitted this size as i would of changed that as well but guess what only the 10" brake is 2&1/2" wide and 9" brake hubs only come in 2" wide, so a phone call to Melb trailers to tell him they were wrong and his reply was move the plate that the brake is bolted to back 1/2" well weren't going to happen so a quick talk to the boss and the correct hubs were made and posted 2 days later.
There explanation on the hubs was that NSW has a differant size standard to VIC in describing brake hubs 8O :? me, i think he stuffed up and just didn't want to admitt it, considering that when i rang AL-CO Sydney and quoted the size thats when they told me that 9"x 2" was a standard brake hub size, AL-CO hubs are made in Victoria 8O Sydney only distribute to retailers.
I think i would talk to AL-CO in Melbourne if i had to do this again as they have Land Rover hubs in stock for Defender and series I Discos and series Landies too, i think that they would make them for the DII with a little less fuss, after speaking to them they seemed pretty heplfull i just wish i'd used them in the first place.
Now according the guy at Melb trailer in Vic when quoting sizes for brake hubs 9"x 2" actually means the hub will be 9"x 2&1/2" internal dimentions. 8O
Just another in the to hard Land Rover basket![]()
