    RAEME trailer wreck

Just bought this RAEME trailer wreck ... not sure its the smartest thing I've done ... but I'm committed now.

The thought bubble is to use it as a base for a 130 tub I have in the backyard.

As you can see the chassis is damaged in the rear drivers side, but otherwise looks OK??? It's got shocks - is that unusual?

The trailer body is a mess and will go straight to scrap.

I need to get the chassis back to the Latrobe Valley. I don't have a car trailer to carry it, nor a pintle hitch.

Clearly all this gear has been sitting around for years without moving, and so there is no hope of just hooking up and driving off.

What do you think my options are....

? Try to replace bearings onsite and tow it home - perhaps via a scrap yard to dump the trash. I guess without working lights that is not really legal ... and I guess its not legal if not registered either? I've got rims and tyres here I could take with me ... will just have to hope the wheel nuts come off without spinning a stud.

If I'm going to go with that strategy I'll need some help getting the right parts together.

Or do I just have to shell out for car trailer hire?

Thanks, just looked into the permit to move issue ... need the chassis number and year of manufacture. Will try the seller but I've read of people having lots of trouble locating chassis numbers on these trailers, and as for date of manufacture - I'm sure there's a science to that too, but I haven't worked it out yet.

I'd just borrow some boat lights and forget the permit.

You could try classifying it as 'Homemade' on the permit form and place any year you like. My understanding is this information is really only pertinent when it comes to registration.

Alternate option being that you hire a box trailer with ramp that would fit the whole trailer inside it. If it's only 150km each way, you could easily knock that out in a day. Maybe take a hand-winch to haul to bugger up onto the trailer body if you haven't got a mate that could lend a hand.

    My $0.02.

The seller reports a plate with a chassis no of 105 ... does that fit the bill? I thought they were 4 digit numbers.

From the look of those pics, I'd pick it up with a car trailer, winch it on and whatever else you may pick up whilst your there

Your making me nervous Damien ... I was heading down the path of lights and a tow home (After cutting 'flapping' bits off with an angle grinder). What makes you suggest the car trailer route?
