    Sealants

What sealants are people using on their vans when fitting stuff to the outside?

or when repairing existing things you suspect might be leaking?

and what sealing tape to people generally using when refitting things like the top outer vent on the fridge venting ? ( i want to add a fan or two and a thermostat switch so the fans come on when the venting circuit hits 50degC )

    Sikaflex to mount stuff.

be warned though,, it wont EVER come off,, as in you will destroy whatever you attached before the sika releases,,

I used it on my roof aerial bracket and last two solar panels. oh, and my LED tail lights,
only comes in black or grey,,

White roof and gutter sealent for anything that doesn't need to come back off. It WILL last the life of the caravan. I spent 5months last winter sealing up my caravan. You can have a look here at what I did (I'm not saying it the best way or the right way to do it, but I'm more than satisfied with the results!).

Time for another project | Classic Caravans

It sure is interesting pulling bits of caravans. Eg: I just pulled some wall cladding off a modern caravan ... ('cos it was dented). And I'm staggered at what a piece of utter **** the modern very fancy caravan is.

I am currently using sikaflex pro sealant on my van as the last time it rained, it leaked. I won't know if it worked for a while though as there is no rain forecast for the next month.

The PRO is just a sealant not an adhesive.

Check out T-Rex from Soudal. Made in Belgium.

See the 2nd half of this post: http://daviddeere.net.au/dnnd2/en-us/Blog/Post/1320/Bathroom-basin-shelf-bin and TRex Adhesive

My whole truck is held together with this stuff.

It stays slightly flexible when set, and it will glue things even underwater/wet.

Gee's guys, DO NOT USE AN ADHESIVE. Silicon is bad enough, if you use a sikaflex adhesive ( I haven't found a sealer only variety of sikaflex yet.. .they are all VERY STRONG). You will NEVER get the caravan apart again. Stick a window in with sikaflex or silicon and you'll NEVER get that sucker back out without destroying the entire wall of the caravan!

Fixtec, an Australian company, just google, contact & they will advise what will do what you are trying to seal. They make awesome products. All thier products originated from the marine industry.

    Cheers
