Is a Disco 3 any good for towing.

I want a new vehicle that will tow a 2100kg van without struggling on an average hill on the highway. All the reports and awards make the Disco 3 turbo diesel look like a great vehicle and I think the one for me, but I cant find anything on using it to tow with. Has anyone had any experience using one to tow that sort of weight with? How did it handle it? What did it do to fuel consumption? Did the "unusual" towbar arrangement work out OK?
Thanks in advance for your experiences.

there was a full write up about the Disco 3 TDV6 towing a twin axel van in Land Rover Owner International magazine a couple of months ago.

By all accounts handles like a dream - I especially like the fact you can program the remote to lower / higher the rear air suspension - how usefull is that!!!

We have a Disco 3 HSE TDV6 auto which we use to tow our Trakmaster Nullarbor 17 foot tandem van - tare weight is 2,300 kg, ball weight 280 kg.
LRA do not condone the use of any weight distribution devices, which worried us at first, however the rig tows like a dream without any - hardly know it's there (van also has air suspension).
Fuel consumption obviously varies depending on wind and terrain, but our worst has been around 20 L/100 km and the best around 16 L/100 km. We often sit on 95 kph when safe to do so.
The hitch receiver being held on by a pin the size of your thumb also had us worried for a while, but have recently had independent comment by a metallurgist who works with stress testing etc, and he reckons that that little pin would cope with 16 ton. Whew! what a relief!
We have had a problem with LED indicator lights on the van - see our separate subject on this.
In summary, we are extremely happy with Disco 3's towing ability - it's awesome!

Is the D3 any good for towing???

Do bears s#@t in the forest?????

    Is the Pope a Catholic???

    Are the Kennedy's gun Shy???

Has a Land Rover ever had an Oil Leak ????

With the 440 nm of Torque from the TDV6 and the self leveling air suspension, I hardly know my 1.5t fully loaded Coromal camper is even there most of the time.

The D3 tows this load up hills on the highway far easier than the old TD5 went on the same hills without a load.

I am getting between 12.5 and 13.5 l/100km towing this on the Highway
(better ecconomy around 90km/h, less around 115km/h).
Jumps up to around 14.5l/100km on windy, steep bush tracks.

Get the right tow hitch and it makes towing even better. See my post at:
