A Dometic NRX 130C with its 8.2L freezer currently on special for $1395 + $169 edging with free delivery is a good saving on the $2500 153L Dometic, but that leaves a 375mm high empty space underneath. Except that the depth is nowhere adequate, a $300 30L drawer fridge might be useful. Maybe just get the 153L and move on. There's going to be enough work extracting the old one and fitting the 153L to keep me busy when I have other things to do.

You know, of all the things I've considered, getting the thing through the door wasn't one of them.

Still, the OKA is modular.. kinda.

That's pretty poor. There are a few people who specialise in absorption fridges in Aus. As much as you want a compressor, perhaps a repair is worth considering?

I'm lucky I suppose. We have 2. One is nearly 40 and the other pushing 50. I'm sure they'll cark it one day, but as much as I plan for replacement with compressors they keep on keeping on.

Repair had been considered but it seems that the threshold for worthwhile repair falls somewhere between 10 and 15 years old.

Have you considered a 240v domestic fridge and small inverter. I read a post on a caravan site a few years back that a 220 litre Samsung inverter fridge only draws 55w, not that I would ever consider anything Samsung after an awful experience when an 18 month old $2000 tv simply parted ways with its stand and crashed down destroying it. Samsung refused to do anything, simply claiming it was fitted wrong. It wasn't.

FWIW our bus has a 240v fridge, a (now) twenty something year old Kelvinator.
Everything is 240v and run off the inverter...

I wasn't keen on fitting a household fridge before after reading the details for one 12V fridge that was meant for small houses etc that mobile use would void the warranty, so reverted to discounting house fridges.

The old fridge is too deep to be removed without dismantling the internals of the other side of the van (cupboards, seats and a wall) so its pipework etc will be cut away to shorten it. Therefore the deeper new 153L fridge is no longer an option.

The replacement 12V with factory 240V to 12V option fridge is now installed. It is shallow enough to just slip between the kitchen cupboards/stove and the dining seats, then tilted onto a platform the same height as the new raised fridge floor then slid backwards into the cavity, appropriately secured and insulated. I might get to convert the raised floor box to a storage area.
