i will try and remember to weigh it this saterday for you mate.
as a guess ide say its now around the 700kg range.
it will be as per camping trip minus clothes and 45l of water.
it stays packed with 90% of the food we would take and bedding.
cheers phil
honestly,, i dont find it any different to tow from full to empty:eek:
it rides better on dirt tracks full, but it still dosnt skip and move around.
being a single axle with a center pivot(orac hitch) it will be hard to get it to flex as such.
the tyres will drop by about 50mm when i jack the trailer off the ground.
cheers phil
Hi Phil,
Better late than never.
Looks the same as a bloke over here in the West used to make in the'80s.
He used to make them to go on top of L/Rs and other 4bs - folded out backwards or side ways. Mine was on a trailer and went backwards. Even the support brackets look the same.
Couldn't see them. If you haven't got them, suggest you have some heavy tags and eyes with a length of 10mm sash cord attached to the each corner of the top support stay and the annex stay so it can be pegged to the ground . This is just to prevent the camper unit from flexing to much in strong winds.
Silly bugger only registered the design didn't think of patienting it.
Tony :wheelchair:
I weighed mine with the new top placed on yesterday.
890kg,going to be a heavy duty unit when in full "Im off enjoying myself" mode:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
But I built it my way and I will enjoy every litre of diesel I pour into BlackBetty draging it around:cool::cool::cool::cool: I dont think it will self destruct in a hurry;);););)
Andrew
ive started on a little bit more work on the trailer to get ready for our trip back to QLD via rover park. this trip i'll have the 3 extras, my baby girl and our 2 dogs, so i need all the space i can get:eek:
ive moved the spare from in the alloy box to under the trailer A frame. it looks close to the ground but still 460mm away from the earths surface.. as its a trailer spare im going to fit a skinner tyre to get more clearance, although for general touring i think this will be high enough off the ground, and it has an added benifit of lowering the center of gravity slightly.

ive also fitted a 70L water tank, and just have the plumbing and the water pump to finish.

the box frame that the tent sits on now has a alloy back door for easy access to the new draws im going to build that will run the full length of the trailer. the will be just for lite things, blankets/tarps camp chairs etc.

i had some unused space in the front of the camper in the void between the tent and the storage box lid, when its up.
so i fitted a 6'' pole carrier and a 4'' water tank for washing hands, filling windscreen bottles etc. about 20L worth.

and the mount for the 100w solar panel, slide in slide out. fits under the tent perfectly, out of site and protected during travelling.

once ive finished modifing the box frame i might just paint the bloody thing....one day.....
cheers phil
trailer is turning into a demon Phil as all your cars do.....you got prices for your solar yet? Ian has been wanting to fit solar since we got the defender now we have a trailer I guess it makes more sense especially as we found out that was what the small anderson plug was for:D
Nice work Phil.
I finished fitting my boat rack on mine yesterday, still needs modifying a bit and gas struts sorting.Worked out how Im seting the solar panels today.
