Upgrading is not going to feasible and absolutely pointless if the chassis is not to par and with 13’ wheels currently I think at this stage we can assume that it won’t be (but check) – there is absolutely no point bolting the ultimate offroad suspension and big wheels to a light vehicle base.

I have no doubt that in a conservative set of hands a standard set up will go to nearly all the places the average family wants to see. If you drive hard and fast on remote tracks you will break even the best of rigs. With caution and lots of care these lighter campers can go a long way, remember heavy duty off road vans and trailers have not been around all that long, and the tracks/roads were a lot worse - what did the Aus travelling public do back then??? Not go??? Doubt it…. It will be a case of knowing and staying below the limitations of the equipment in question.
Don’t p*ss about modifying something light in an attempt to make it heavy duty – that will be on going – suspension axel & brakes, now replace the light chassis, now the body mounts, now since it heavier reregister it, and on and on and on… Either be careful and use the light unit or buy a heavy one.
Under current ADR if you change a trailer wheel size it is supposed to be inspected and registration changed to suit - if it passes... There is a diminishing load limit as wheel size increases on all axle/brake/bearing specs.
Me personally – there are NOW more suitable travelling options available, so I would use one of those…
