light truck wreckers?
many a box truck has poly guards over the rear wheels and these can be cut to size/shapre pretty easily... not sure what they cost new, but it can't be that much?
Anyone know where I can get poly trailer guards that will take a 16" wheels / large tyres?
Best I can find are small 14"/15" wheels / tyre combo's.
I am making up an off-road boat trailer where anything but plastic guards will make a mess of the hull as not a lot of clearance.
Cheers

It's not very common for people to want there boats higher off the ground as it makes it harder to get the boat off at the ramp. I have not personally seen poly guards for 16 inch tyres.
Is this for a tinnie or something bigger?

Stumbled accross these Truck Mudguards / Fenders - Plastic mudguards, Stainless Steel mudguards, Aluminium mudguards, Anti Spray, Mud flaps, Dynaplas Pty Ltd
DiscoTDI it is a offroad boat trailer hence larger 16" wheels (using LR wheels) paticularly to get it up and out off very deep and chopped up sand tracks. Trailer wheels sit outside not under the hull so boat is not pushed up too high ....hence poly not sheetmetal guards sitting beside hull that hull can bounce off (plus to do that at 2.5m wheel base trailer sits outside tow vehicle wheelbase which in tracked sand is better)
You say ".....boats higher off the ground . ......harder to get the boat off at the ramp"
Well I wish for a ramp!!!!......It will have a folding 3 metre long draw bar extension to assist beach launching
I was in Nerang during the week and saw a special on truck guards, $55 ea in every colour you could dream of. Wouldn't be hard to cut down. My mate has a tyre cut in thirds as his guards, Doesn't look fantastic but does the job.

Regarding off road boat trailers...
Didnt quite understand your comment, "2.5m trackwidth... wheelbase outside vehicle is better". For your own sake make the trailer track the same as the tow vehicle. Especially if you are custom making the trailer... It is so important to be the same width as the vehicle IMHO.
In regards to beach launching, dont carry three meters of draw bar, just attach an axle stub and hub up in front of the winch post, when you get to your launch spot (for us up north that may be a 45 degree bank or 50m of mud flat) attach spare wheel to hub, then attach rope/ winch to the trailer. Disconnect your now three wheeled trailer from the vehicle and push, get it out to the briny... winch trailer back
And finally in regards to the guards, if you truly are taking it off road the boat needs to be so firmly attached to the trailer (lock tighted turnbuckles and webbing) that there will be no movement between hull and trailer such that the gaurd material is irrelevant.
Sorry to be so forward, but one more tip... if you are gonna pound on this trailer off road, and you havent bought axle/hubs yet... really consider using landy stubs bolted to a solid axle and then use landy hubs with proper bearings.
Ohh and finally, the only leaf springs I will use on offroad boat trailers irrespective of boat size are hilux fronts with the appropriate set for load.
Been there done that, my tips I have learnt the hard way towing tinnies up the cape over 6 years or so. Summary:
-same track width as tow vehicle
-zero movement between hull and trailer no matter what
-third hub up front for difficult launchings
-proper hubs/ bearings (not Ford/Holden slimline etc etc)
-hilux front leafs for springs

And everything I said has merit, you are not the first to launch a boat from a beach and you will not be the last, if you cannot readily find poly trailer guards for this purpose it is because there is not a market that warrants their production. We cannot read minds and have to ask questions to see if we can help with other solutions if what you want is not available.
I also do beach launches with a 4.5m glass boat that has falcon rims and steel guards on the trailer and I strap my boat down so that it does not jump and damage my hull. I cannot however get my boat in or out of this spot at low tide with 14 inch rims.

Sorry Mate,
Didn't see your question until today. just got back from fishing at Boondoomba Dam. I dont know exactly as I am unfamilar with the area, but I saw them not long after we turned off the Logan Motorway at the turnoff to Nerang. I wish now that I had taken more notice.
Cheers
