Thread: Normal Trailer and Offroad Trailer

An off-road trailer should have the following
Heavy duty axle/springs(shackle type not slipper leaves) or independant suspension.
Larger rims and stronger hubs.
Preferable to have brakes.
Preferable to have an off-road hitch,ie Tregg or similar.

Are you looking for an actual camper or just a heavy duty trailer?

a normal trailer is light easy to maneuver, they can be taken off road but not at speed when do you think you will use it the most of road or on the tar top , just a tip if you do get a normal one get one built so that you can stand it up against a wall so its out of the way

camper trailer doesnt need to be offroad trailer right?!

I am thinking toward heavy duty trailer and might put tent on it in the future.
If I get a normal heavy duty trailer, how do I make it higher as my D2 may be higher than the trailer.

They will also use stronger section chassis and drawbars, and the drawbars may be longer. The side section of the trailers may also be designed to be stiffer also.
If its for touring, then also look for shock fitment.

Run the axle under the leaf springs.

i'd also add that off road trailers generally should have RHS chassis - preferably 50x50mm. I've seen a lot of on road trailers made from angle iron rather than RHS.

I prefer 50 x 50 ladder style chassis (with a min of 4 cross beams inc the two at either end) and a 75/100 x 50 drawbar. Would also prefer the drawbar to be as close to the front spring hangers as possible....

RE springs - if they are leaf, i prefer 60mm wide leafs as opposed to 40mm wide....
