Off Road trailer (not a camper) purchase

    Hi All,

With two growing girls and an increasing array of toys the poor Disco is starting to bulge at the seams so I think it's time to buy a small off road trailer (Ala the Bush Tucker man :-)) to take some of the load. I've considered the idea of an ex-army one but they seem hard to get (especially in Tassie) and may not be that suited to the Disco anyway. I don't have the skills to build one which leaves buying one as the main option. At this stage I'm leaning towards an explorer from O'Briens in Melbourne (1.2m long, wheels and track matched to the Disco, solid lid) as everything I've been able to find suggests they know how to make a good trailer. However, I thought I would use the collective wisdom on here to see if there's anyone else I should be looking at?

So, any suggestions for other manufacturers?

    cheers, Andy

    Hi Andy,
Whatever you end up deciding on, make sure it is galv/ hot dipped. I have seen MANY painted offroad trailers after 1 trip looking a bit worse for wear, stone chips and rust already

I would urge you to take a look at the simplicity of mine,(Cape York Trailers) although it is a bit big for what you need I reckon, it has some good construction and strength/ durability pointers. You're welcome to take it for a 'tow' if you like.
    How was the break?

You might want to look at Stockman POD trailer - It has a lockable lid is very light and has an upgrade drop-in camper unit ... I have the on-road type and it has been down or up the Oodnadatta track , Mereenie Loop and I have had no trouble with it - only had trouble with my add-ons !!

The off road version has more leaf springs , shocks and off-road hitch ..
Wheels can be matched to your vehicle when ordering .. Not the cheapest trailer around but has a few extras that make the extra dollars look OK .

    Cheers
