Depends on who you buy it from. I have one on my D2 that is good and worth the money. It is backed up by Rovercare too. Consider it as insurance against the possibility that repairs costing more than $2000 will occur during the next couple of years. As with insurance, if you don't have to make a claim you can say "well that was a waste", but if you do then you can say "phew, glad I had that."
It is not the single expense that costs more than the two grand, it's the accumulated expenses over that period from things you claimed on. And, while it might cost a couple of grand, it will cover expenses far in excess of that and fix far more than the 2 grand in your bank account will.
Also, if you have some warranty left when you sell it should add to the the value of the vehicle and indicates to the potential buyer that here is an owner who cared about their car.
