The metal connector is a SubMinuture B type or otherwise known as an SMB, the FAKRA one appears to have a plastic outer to allow keying.

You have it sorted, AULRO is good with a fellow member putting you out of the misery of waiting for the slow boat from China.

Many thanks to drelectro for putting together a convertor cable for me.

So another small step forward, I have connected a camera and can get video via the "secret screen". Only problem is it is only this...

The picture changes when I move the camera about so it is getting something. I presume it is a formatting issue?

I might try to drop into a local installer ans see if they have any cameras that give a proper picture. (I have the input cable hanging out of the dash now so I don't have to take the dash apart to connect up a camera.)

    Having fun,

    WE HAVE ACTION!

As per my previous post, the cheapy ebay camera I bought did not produce a picture but I could at least tell there was a signal being received.

Today I went down to my local friendly installer and we went through his camera collection until we found one that worked. It turns out the screen wants a PAL format camera ONLY, NTSC will not work.

Now to mount the camera properly, which should be relatively easy as there are plenty of web tutorials for this.

Then I need to tell the vehicle that it now has a reversing camera. I can now only access the camera through the "secret screen". I'm having some issues getting my Nanocom to upload an edited CCF file into the vehicle, which I am working with BBS to hopefully resolve.

    Cheers,

I finally have a working reversing camera setup.

    A few things of relevance.

There is a certain amount of pre-wiring already there for a reversing camera. The is a 4 pin connector for power and earth (and CANBUS feed) at the top of the tailgate and also a FAKRA connector for the video feed. I think the other end of the video feed is at a connector under the central console. The power feed is active whenever the ignition is on, which is how the factory camera works. It was dead easy to take the camera power feed and earth from this connector. I ran a new video feed from the camera to the touch screen but it would be possible to use the existing wiring if you could source the correct FAKRA plugs.

Using the C2820 FAKRA connector on the rear of the touch screen unit (which TOPIx indicates is the reversing camera video feed), when I used the video function in the service menu it only would work using a PAL format camera. I had bought a NTSC format ebay camera and I had to go down to my local audio tech shop and go through his box of bits before we found a PAL camera that worked. All good I thought, now to alter the CCF file to get the vehicle to look for the camera when placed in reverse and all good.

After a bit of gymnastics with BBS and getting the CCF edit and upload process to work, I edited the CCF file to add a reserving camera. There is no obvious setting in the CCF for the camera (ie reversing/rear camera etc). Thanks to LandyAndy who let me take note of the VIN off his D4 (which has a factory camera) from which I could compare his factory CCF (via the BBS Genesis software) with mine to see which settings worked the camera. When I activated the camera in the CCF, when I selected reverse I would just get a fuzzy mess, the same fuzzy mess that I got when using the NTSC camera initially. It turns out that when accessing the camera (from the same connector at the rear of the touch screen) from the service menu it requires the video feed in PAL format. When accessing when in reverse it wants the video feed in NTSC format!! What a pain in the ...., now I have a nice new PAL camera sitting in the cupboard waiting for a future project.....

I can see the tow ball with the camera I have got and backing onto a trailer is now very easy. I haven't managed to activate the funky bending guide lines from the factory camera. I suspect that if you could get a genuine camera and a genuine tailgate wiring loom so the CANBUS can talk to the camera, would could get the factory guidelines. When I get time I might try to find the part numbers for these and see what the cost is from LR.....

So all in all I have achieved what I was after. Now for the next project.....

    Cheers,

    Great write up

Great write up Chris, just makes me glad the MY14 TDV6 I took off the showroom floor already had a camera installed though!

I might get in touch regarding editing the CCF file editing process - I've got a Faultmate Extreme and have been spectacularly unsuccessful even getting to the CCF file to edit it. It's really surprising that they produce such a good piece of diagnostic equipment (apparently) but provide such $hite instructions, and yes I've looked at all of the videos and their 'manual' ....

    Loom part numbers

I've been thinking on this a bit but struggling to find the OEM camera when I found this the other day: NEW Genuine Landrover Discovery 2010 2013 Tailgate Rear Camera | eBay

Looks to be the genuine LR camera...

So seems that with this camera should only need to get my hands on the 2 looms (or make them up) - one from camera to the tailgate loom and one from under the console to the head unit?

My novice question is how do I dig up the LR part numbers for these? I've been trying to find a parts manual for MY14 but no luck so far.

    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David.
Do you have the Meridian stereo or the HK unit?
The LR part number for a MY14 reversing camera is LR043493.

The only thing I would be concerned about is my review of the wiring diagrams determined that 6 pins are required at the camera plug. The ebay camera shown only appears to have 4 pins?

I don't know that the tailgate wiring looms are readily available. It may easier to make one up if you have the time and expertise.

    Cheers,

Thanks Chris. I have the Meridian unit. I do have a background in electronics so I can make up the looms, especially once I can identify the connectors properly.

Did you sight the other end of the video feed under the console?

and another novice question. I have a 2009-2012 Workshop Manual on CD I bought off ebay. (mostly the same but not always... it shows the camera connector as 4 pin) What's the best way to get my hands on workshop manual, parts manual and wiring diagrams for my MY14?
