OK, Now I am really envious.
My dream, to have such a trailer rig. Maybe I should bite the Bullet and source the rear of a 110. Albeit I would probally remain with Leaf Springs.
this will be an ongoing project as funds come available
something like this.
my tub thanks to LVS.
and the base, ready to be tacked up.
the base has 14.29m of 50x50x5SHS @ 6.39kg/m thats 91.31kg.
im going the coil spring route, via a 4 link axle setup.
im wanting to use trailing arms, bushes, springs, shocks ect off S1disco and defender, just in case
after the axle and suspension comes finding 3x 16x7boost alloys and mt117 sports to match the 90.
i have a tanami touring tent, center pole with the extra bit out back, that will be attached to the tub top via a fold out base, stabilizer legs ect. the base will be hinged and able to be opened, when tent packed, via some gas strutts.
2x 60l water tanks under the floor. batterys and or gas bottles up front in a seperated locker box.
i want the trailer to be dual use, so i wont be fixing many things inside the tub. most the gear will be packed into plastic tubs and im thinking a drifter type kitchen.
so when i want to use it as a trailer for a load of dirt ect. i can remove the tent and base and the internal containers.
thats the plan so far.
stay tuned
cheers phil.

make a second sub frame for it, hing it at the back, that way you can also use it as a tilt frame for when your carrying dirt...
Im planning on doing this to the one that I was making up ffrom whats left of bug 2.0

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
I like the idea of these alko units, what is the axle rated to? As a matter of interest should one of the rubber bushes fail is there a way to lock the swing arm so you can limp home? Are replacement bushes available and easily replaced? Certainly makes for a simple axle assembly.
if it ever wears out!As a matter of interest should one of the rubber bushes fail is there a way to lock the swing arm so you can limp home?
we have this type of IRS setup on thousands of our towable equipment, weights from 300kg up to 3000kg. the abuse that hire equipment cops is a testament to how bullet proof these axles are! most of works compressors are now over 10yrs old and have not been re bushed!
on the end of the ''swingarm'' inside the main tube is a tortshion(sp) bar thats fixed in the center, that acts as the shock but rhe rubber also has the same dampening effect.
yes the bushes can be replaced, fairly easily and if it did fail, a big if there, i spose you could jam timber in there.
but im so confident in these axles i de say that it would never happen!
this one is rated to 1500kg

How much and can you get the disc's to become electric activated?
havent looked into it yet but i wasnt gonna bother i'll try the hydraulic over ride route first..
cheers phil
I had an A-van on an Alko axle. I towed it to and from Melbourne inland and back via the coast, Townsville a few times, and Townsville, Darwin, Daly River and further west to Wadeye through creeks and over millions of corrugations, then back to Brisbane area in as straight a line as I could from Mount Isa.
My only mishap was to wonder how the dust got in, in one little heap only to find my pepper pot had fallen out of its alocated spot and spilt.
The A-van is now doing service with my son in Townsville and been out to Winton and back that I know of.
I've never heard of an Alko failure. Have any heard of VW torsion bar suspension failures?
BigNev.
are they expensive ?
