    something like this.

    .
Looks a bit heavy in the rear, clearly blanced out by the two spares. Is yours going to be the same? Maybe a larger box on the front will give more stowage.

    shiney!

    how much ground clearance?
    wheel travel?

if the arm is set up at full down (max clearance)
the first movement is backwards,,, not upwards
great for riding over logs but will it try and "steer" the trailer?

dunno yet, should have more clearance than the 90 if i use the same size rims/tyres, only by a few inches.
i reckon the travel will be minimal because the trailer probably wont weigh enough for the axle to work as well as it should.

looking at it today i think its just past the backwards movement stage, i'll deal with that when i come to it, just amatter of where to put gas bottles, water tanks etc etc.

    are they expensive ?
    what vw's or axles??
the same axle bare is almost $900..

    cheers phil

    abit more slooow progress.
have drilled the holes to mount it to the OE points. holes are also done for the axle. the frame is ready to be welded out.

ive had to remove the disc brakes of the axle due to NO one making SLM bearing hubs with an LR stud pattern! so im going the 10'' electric route.

    cheers phil

I remember coming across an alko axled trailer at Barnett River on the Gibb River Road that had busted his rubber bush that takes the axle shock load. He was getting one flown in as he didn't have a spare.

His may have been lighter duty than yours. No doubt you will carry a spare and know how to change it I'm sure

the older design was imported from UK and isnt as tough as the new ones.

they can be rated to anywhere between 100kg and 2500kg.
    mines rated at 1500kg.
considering when its registered it should weigh in under 400kg i will be able to pack the bloody kitchen sink

so far completely welded frame 100kg
    tub around 60-80kg
    axle with wheels complete 130kg
    water tanks 2x 60L

    cheers phil

If anyone has a rear tub spare for 130 dual cab let me know as I want one to replace my drop side tray as I prefere the HCPU backs. I love the the simplicity of your trialer setup, its giving me some ideas as I want to ditch the 7x5 galv box trailer I've got and built something out of marine grade stainless and Ally.
