    Aussie 101 club.

OK there has been much behind the posts talk and grumblings.
Where are most of the 101s in Aust located ?
Are we geared for the next step, or do we just keep on going the way we are as a group of like minded people using this forum and get together where ever we can ?
Could the club be centred around AJs as he seem to be the aussie linch pin of aussie 101s ?
We seem to be building up a good store of information and how to mod parts or where to get them.
If we did the club thing it would be a big step with meetings and the paper trail etc and people willing to put in time.
    Cowora for the AGM ??????
My personal feeling is just to keep using this site and try to make it better used and known ?
Lets just throw our Thoughs out there.
The UK site seems to have been the trigger for this thread, we all seem to have had bad vibes.

    My 2c:

While AJ's still in business and Incisor is kind enough to keep this forum running I see no need for change. I do my bit by subscribing to the forum and now supporting AJ where possible.

If either of those two changes then I'd be more than willing to consider joining an Aussie based 101 club. Otherwise, the other clubs I'm part of seem like a lot of hard work and generally result in clashes between people where they would otherwise have no reason to disagree.

When my 101 is up and running I'll be making an effort to go for runs with the few other Perth based 101's, otherwise, unless I relocate over east I'm not likely to take the 101 across the Nullarbor for a while yet (unless someone donates a overdrive to me )

edit* this year my membership for the overseas 101 club will be lapsing. Be damned if I'm going to pay that much each year to access a substandard forum.

Was just mulling over your suggestion Ron, and thought it was a good idea. Stuee has a point tho, but.. How's about you have a word with Incisor and see if we could get a 'Section' within the 'Clubs Sections' on this great forum.... This is one of the reasons for going down the diesel route.. Having the ability to cruse across to Melbourne and beyond at 110kph at 1200 rpm... and yes to a meet up. It'd be nice to get as many 101's together. Would love to have a good look around them all. Can't wait to get mine on the road!

I'm on board. I'm disappointed with the insular way the uk club runs. I will probably persist because I think it's not sinister but incompetence that causes the problems

Perhaps given the distance required a aus101 club would be difficult given everyone's localities. But maybe we could use some fancy computer trickery and have virtual meetings.

Anyway a collective down here would be good.

    A bit more....

Stuee I agree that the current set up is good but I think it would be great to collate all the info and advice. Eg: fitting overdrives, making cables, tyre info and diff locks. All this stuff is here but would be good if we could do a resource.

Also we may have a better chance at negotiating stuff . Eg instead of buying one tilt we could order say 10 and get a better price maybe flog a couple off at a small profit or perhaps get them made locally. I have been looking at designing a front bumper.... Maybe we could make a few and sell 'em or at least share the specifications.

I guess it's a bit altruistic but would be nice to think someone will be preserving 101's for many decades to come.

May be a thread with specs, where, why and how to fit, just sort of like what we have been doing, but more organised so the information is easier to find for reference ????? and shared ??????
Yes that big distance thing would kill a 101 club.....we are too spread out.

Before I reply, consider the pot stirred

I think you raise good points Sleepy, but I think we could achieve most of them without the hassles of forming an official club. I'm more than happy to spend time collating procedures etc into a nice format like a wiki or some such thing (I have a lot from this forum saved under my links, and have plenty of photos of the bits I have done) and I think most of us would be happy to contribute to group buys if we got off our bottoms and organised them (we practically held an unofficial one with the Zeus disc brake conversion!).

After seeing how clubs operate with committees and vote's etc, I find generally those with the loudest voices get their way and those with the most common sense sit back and worry about more important things. Eg. look at the foreign 101 club and some of the decisions it has come out with. Additionally, my concern is that any club could become insular (good word!) like the existing club and only serves its members not the 101 community.

In saying all that, if a local club did form (by the hard work of others) I can guarantee I will front up with the fees and join (providing they are realistic), I just don't wont to commit myself to to any of the positions that go along with running a club (president, treasurer, secretary, random club position guy etc). I'd also demand video conferencing for AGM's and other important meetings as an option. Ill even let the club fly me over east to set up a Skype session so those remote can get involved

Whaddaya mean no copying! I'v been saving pics of just about every custom 101 bumper I've seen. I'm gonna copy all the goods bits and put them into mine eventually. So far its basically just going to have twin headlights and an electric winch but those are the only good bits I've found

I'll also be copying the roof bar that daslandroverguy posted up, just using LED's instead.

On a more serious note, where I have been not finding the required info or looking in the wrong direction I post a thread up with as clear as possible title for the issue. Maybe to get things going we could ask the moderator to allow one or some of us to compile a sticky thread with links and descriptions of many of the good technical posts???

Sounds like need a thread on bumpers. 😇 I only copy things that aren't copyrighted ....hahahaha .... Nah I just want a bumper that is roughly similar in dimensions as original but a bit stronger and capable of holding and electric winch and some decent recovery points.

Yeah maybe a club is too much work for probably a couple of dozen members .
