    Thanks for the info fellas,
i've got a feeling the bloke wasn't totally sure of what he was talking about when he was giving me those figures, he was umming and ahhing like he'd never really given it much thought before, the Long Range tank sounds like an awesome idea i'd be filling up once a month when the price of diesel comes down!

My speedo is always about 10% over, even with the standard 7.50R16 wheels but I've checked my odometer over those 5km checks and its 200m out, so 4% over. Last time I checked mileage (including a weekend in the mud) I calculated around 9.2L/100km but that was based on deducting 10% from my mileage, not 4%, so if you're sensible on the peddle, 10L/ 100km should (Should I say) be easily achievable. Wanna b a boy racer, and you're probably looking at 12-13l/100km. oh my figures based on a 300Tdi, not Td5.

Never even remotely gotten close to 9l per 100kms. Even when it was empty. Best I reckon I have done is about 12, but more average of 13-15. Can not say I am over enthused about the TD5 economy. The tdi Discovery used to do 9s easy.

Best I've got from a td5 is 9.15 L/100km. Light load, mix of highway, back roads and a spot of 4x4. The route helped, going up was slower. Round town gets 11s.

my very best effort was 1000K from the factory tank. BUT I was doing everything right, night drive, empty, 80kph (following a crane for work) aircon off, windows up vent flaps open dead flat ground no wind, yada yada yada. and it was well past the E on the tank and the fill me you idiot light had been on for over an hour when we finally rolled into an open servo.

Average 10.5L per 100K's best I ever got out of the standard tank when I had it was 700K's by which time I was doing 80k's coasting down hills and praying.

I can get under 10L but need to keep the speed below 100K's on a good run.

Oh I've taken all the polution crap off, cat off, center muffler off, crank case hose out of the air intake. Since doing all this in Sydney trafic I average 10.5; 50 weeks of the year.

When I was maintaining my logs I was getting a consistant 11.5litres per 100km.
Thats with a 130 converted to auto and lots of things to add to it's weight. I did find that the loaded or empty the differeance was neglible.
