    Key won't turn past accessory

My week is just getting so much better... NOT!

I presently have a serious health problem which the only thing I can do is basically recline in a chair and rest as much as possible, in other words do nothing and don't get stressed. The doctor's given me time off until next Wednesday and I have at least 2 follow up visits in the mean time. If I was to work on the car I'd probably pass out or drop dead!

...and so my wife, who has been given time of work to look after me, took the Defender down town to buy some groceries. Got back to the Defender to find the ignition key wouldn't turn past accessory position. Dale (Stuuu) came to help and drove her home, I went back with her (I can't drive at present) and tried with some graphite powder. No luck. Back home and call in a few forum favours. I think we all agree the ignition barrel is stuffed

The car is nose in perpendicular parked in the local shopping car park. I don't know how we can get it out if we can't drive it

Call LR Assist and I must say the initial call left me unimpressed but anyway they offered a solution and asked me to call back. Wife went back down town and tried but no luck. Call LR Assist back and got a very helpful person. He did as much as he could and referred me to LR Aust. Called them and told them the issue, they then called back and it's now in the hands of the local workshop (Toyota dealer) to try and recover and repair.

So anyway, I was very please with LR and LR Assist and now just have to get it fixed. Remember I am in a very remote are and there is no dealer within 1100km which they were able to listen to what I had to say and work with me for towards a solution.

So now back to not worrying or being stressed and doing nothing but relaxing Will post up what the problem ends up being.

Thanks: Stuuu, Scallops, one_iota, Sniegy, Justinc, Bundalene

Had a 'similar' problem with my Disco when the key wouldn't turn at all. Problem related to worn tumblers and key which was made worse by the other keys on the key ring weighing the ignitian key down. Try just with the single key with no other keys attached.

Thanks but only ever have two keys and a small key ring for the cars. Don't want heaps of keys jangling around when off road for starters.

Sorry to hear you are not well Derek I hope you get through it soon.

Not that it helps, but my '08 110 had 2 ignition barrels because they were sticking....

    Cheers,

Dale tells me the car got back to the workshop - towed

Already had one phone call that started with: "Was that your Land Rover?"

Did I mention it's a small town and there is only 4 Puma's in town. One white one, two Stornaway Grey ones and my Zermatt Silver one.

Now if it had been a white Toyota, no one would have noticed

I know this sounds REALLY silly, but did anybody consider it could have been the steering lock that wasn't retracting?

Yes, and it wasn't. I actually made sure the lock engaged and was able to turn the key to accessory to release it.

    Mornin' D and B.

Hope you are getting better Derek, it was good to talk to you yesterday, and I hope the ignition issue is only a lock/tumblers failure.

    Stay relaxed
