Swing away tyre carrier for 130's ?

    Who has one?

I have an old Kaymar one but its far from ideal.

I'd prefer one with two attachement points on the "hinge" side because mine only had one at the bottom and it flogged out and allowed back and forth movement which dented my tailgate !

The 130 is harder to set up than a 110 on account of the rear cross member not being in line with teh rear of the body (ute tub protrudes).

So tell me about (and post pics of) your set ups please.

yeah mate I recall that thread as I asked re your canopy.
As to teh tyre carrier what does it acttually attach to behind the panel around the lights? What's solid in there?

Also any dramas with having the one on the tailgate (ie to hold it closed)?

Any improvements you;d make if you did it again?

I've designed a carrier for the 130 which attaches to the chassis with no holes to drill.
When I finish the 110 carriers I'm doing at the moment ( Puma Rear Wheel Carrier ), I was thinking about doing some for the 130. I just sold my prototype 130 carrier (see pics below) to another member who wanted one straight away.

That's very similar to te kaymar bar I have - though I like the adjustable tyre bracket on yours.

Liek I said the problem I think with that type of design is when the "hinge" (whatever you call it) flogs out, it allows back and forh movement (eg top of the tyre toward the tailgate, denting the tailgate.

How does your address this issue ?

Admittedly this is not a tested design as yet, but the main hub that the whole thing swings on is on tapered roller bearings the same as a trailer wheel, so it would take forever to flog them out with this sort of use.
The latch is adjustable and pretty heavy duty.
The rubber buffer in the pic can be packed out with spacers to press firmly against the tail gate. I use some stone guard clear poly film where the buffer hits the tail gate so it doesn't wear the paint.
The side wall of the tyre presses firmly against the main vertical beam, so in conjunction with the rubber buffer and the locating plate at the latch, I've done everything I can to eliminate as much movement, vibration etc in the carrier as I can. Time will tell anyway. We'll see how it goes.

I do intend to make some more 130 carriers, but it wont be until after I finish the batch of Puma/Td5 110 carriers I'm doing at the moment.
I'll PM you with an idea on price, not because it's a big secret, but selling in the main forums is not allowed. I think we'll get away with it this time as the item in question doesn't even exist yet
