Egr valve I think. Again. And vacuum pump.

I'm having trouble with the egr valve on my puma I think. Really bad throttle response and lag at each gear change. Hunting idle speed and more often than not if I stop the engine and restart it within 30 odd seconds it starts and then stalls. Any thoughts.
And has anyone tried driving a puma with it unplugged. Does it run?
Also all you people who have had a vacuum pump go did you get any warning? Mine has a small haze of oil on the left hand side just behind the pulley.
    Should I be worried?

Yes, that's the Vac pump warning I got too.

I believe if you unplug the EGR the MIL (check engine) will illuminate and put you in limp mode.

    P.S. The coffee is fantastic

My 2007 Defender is just out of warranty. Still has the original pump but it will probably fail. Thought about carrying one as a spare.

Priced one at a dealer in Melbourne the other day. $450.00 dollars just for the pump plus fitting. Ouch!

Have a look at getting one from the UK, for example ($171.89 + Shipping):

    Again

Nice. Does anyone know how easy it is to fit. Seems like the belt tensioner etc etc needs to come off? Bleeding? Oil?

Double ouch!! My new work vehicle is to be picked up on Wednesday. It is a Ford Transit

Maybe I can keep the Defender going with Transit parts and the Transit going with Defender parts.

Sorry, I have not had to fit and EGR or pump yet so can't give any useful info on this.

Tim, thanks for the U.K. pricing on the pump. Seems good value unlike Australian prices.

Just to let you guys know we can access the EGR valve and relevant gaskets as well the vacuum pump and gaskets. Our price for the pump would be similar to that quoted for dispatch from the UK however ours is dispatching from Perth - much cheaper freight to your door than from overseas. If you'd like me to quote just flick me a PM or an email with your VIN so I can be certain on part numbers
