I'll give one more vote for the handbrake dragging as my 110 had the same fault. LR's standing fix is to replace the backing plate and the drum.
Apparently LR have had a few 2010 Defenders with this problem.

    Cheers,

I had new drum..new shoes...which had to be chemically ground down to stop the dragging..

It took a few months to get it fixed but they finally did

I had a heavy knocking after a spin in low-range this sorted it and transmission and diffs now silent again.

Be good if my problem is this simple to remedy, so I'll try that and then go on to Dave's options. Once again, Thanks
Running in low range won't cause windup in the transmission. Running with the centre difflock engaged on high traction surfaces will.

Mine does this as well! Wasn't sure if it was suppose to be right??? How much of a problem is it? If I don't get it fixed until another 5000kms will it just wear out the handbrake?

Well must be a common problem, I am going to Land Rover this Thursday to find out what it is.

Reading that I dont think it would be the cause of gear box chattering, but I will find out
