I did, and it is.....

H4 Kits usually have a plug that operates the input for the lighting relay in the kit, and they draw the power straight off the battery.

I pulled them out again and replaced them with JWSpeaker LED Headlamps.....

Be careful, unless you have levelers and washers on the lights they will be unroadworthy.

In Australia it is illegal to fit HID headlights unless you have automatic leveling and washers. If you fit them you need to be aware of the possible consequences in the event of a motor vehicle accident and to your insurance.

defenders do have adjustable headlights just not automatic...I would say keep them on the most downward setting. not saying this would make it legal though

I stand to be corrected, but I think it's only illegal to have HID on low beam without auto leveling and washers. High beam is ok.
You can get combo globes such as in this kit >>> hid H4/L 12v/35w <<<

Washers are a more important issue than leveling as dirty lens can cause the light to scatter significantly and be quite dazzling. The situation is compounded if the globes are simply replaced with HID inserts as these apparently have different light emission points for which the reflectors and the lens are not designed. I think the washers have to be high pressure.

The simplest way to get significant light improvement is to install a Traxide wiring loom (or equivalent) and/or replace the standard globes with something like Phillips X-treme Power or Osram Night Breaker globes which put out about 80% more light.

I don't want to get too deep into this stuff but ADR 75, General Specification 6.1 states:

6.1 The headlamp cleaner shall be designed and constructed to clean those parts of the light-emitting surface of the headlamp which distribute the passing beam and the driving beam so that at least the cleaning effect specified in paragraph 7 below is achieved.

Seems pretty clear to me that it is illegal to have any HID headlight beam without washers.

I wanna know more about these LED lamps from JW Speaker
A bit flash for my ol bush hack but at least stinking legislation doesnt rule on LED lighting at the moment! Give us a review Draymond. I was blown away by the light from some recently aquired via AULRO LED worklamps - and thought to myself - these are as good if not better than poxy halogens. Are they good? Price?
