    Auxiliary Fuel Tank - Isuzu

    Attached is a picture of the auxiliary fuel tank as requested by isuzutoo-eh.

    Rather than try to put dimensions on, these are the dimensions

    Width 390
    Length of lower section (back) 560
    Height of lower section 200
    Length of cutout for crossmember 130
    Height of cutout section 125
    Height of higher (front) section 390
    Overall length of high section 230
    Length of full width part of high section 45
    Length of narrow part of high section (from front) 130

    All dimensions in mm. Note breather at top front and top back corner, outlet behind crossmember, filler top back corner. Filler is from a Y in the original filler, horizontal pipe sitting on the rear Spring mount and diving under the body in the wheel arch where the chassis dips for the rear (wagon) floor. It is supported by the additional crossmemeber you can see, bolted to tubes welded through the chassis in way of the crossmember behind the gearbox, and via the strap under the tank which bolts to the body support frame behind the rear floor, under the rear seat. (I'll try to remember to get a picture with the rear floor out after I reinstall it.) It has an integrated skid plate under the tank, 1/8" plate bent up the front about 4", with six (I think) longitudinal 1/2" rods welded to it.

    Changes I would make if I were doing it (it was fitted when I bought the car, although I have added the fuel gauge):- Make it a little shorter to give more clearance from the transfer case when checking oil level - another 10-20mm would be good. Separate filler, just behind the rear door - either adapt a filler the same as the existing one or use a Series one.

    Other comments. No return line to this tank, but the filler and breathers are connected to the original filler and breathers. This means that when running on the aux tank, excess fuel goes to the main tank, transferring fuel to it. When the main tank is full, further returned fuel overflows into the aux tank via the filler or breather. The clearance from the prop shaft is right on the minimum. Unless the tank is pushed right against the LH chassis rail, it will mark the paint on the prop shaft. 5mm narrower could be an idea.

    Fuel tank holds approximately 60l. Owing to the shape, the gauge gives only an approximate idea of the amount left. The tank does have baffles - the extra patch on top is my first attempt at fitting a gauge - it fouled a baffle, but I am not sure just where they all are.
