Inspecting a used Puma - things to look for

Great brains of Defender World....I seek your advice.

I posted an earlier thread about what to look for in a used Deefer - but I was going to be looking at a TD5. This weekend however, I'm going to view and test a 2008 Puma, with just under 100k on the clock....supposedly road use only.

Is there anything specific I should look out for?

I won't have access to an independent LR mechanic to help me....so I need to make sure I check everything myself.

Have a thorough read of Bundalene's excellent Puma repair thread.

Apart from the usual stuff, check the AC works, the diffs aren't noisy or have excessive play, check for vac pump leaks, and check that the roof and side panels have all securing bolts fitted and aren't loose.

Service History!!! Particularly how much time it has spent on a ramp.

    Also:

Diff's as Isuzurover said, if the pinion seal is leaking it's not a good sign for the diff, (look for oil sprayed under the car).
Check for rattling from the gearbox when going from acceleration to deceleration at 100km/h
Shudder under heavy acceleration in 6th from 90km/h - indicating that the springs in the clutch are coming loose.
Check to see that the vac pump has been changed, (should be in the service history)
Check the prop's for grease nipples
Check for cracks in the sealant on the roof joint above the A pillar - Edit, and at the top of the windscreen where the frame meets the roof.
Check the fuel tank overflow has been repositioned, (should be in the service history)

Edit: And look for signs of oil around the handbrake drum, and surrounding bodywork.

    Cheers,

The vehicle was described as a 2008 (2007MY) but when I ran the VIN the key indicator of year suggests 2009. Is this a mistake on the part of the seller (a LR dealer who took it as part-ex for a new Disco) or could it be made in 2007 and VIN only assigned in 2009?

with that meny kms,,, start/ stop the engine with ya foot OFF the clutch,,, and check for a rattle,

oil leaks, service at a DEALER, so the right oil has been used, and check resepts for genuine parts used,

go for a long drive ,, more then 20mins to cheak the ac, have it full cold on out side air on speed one,, see if it still works after the 20 mins,

make sure it gose in and out of revsers easy and gose thru the gears qwick with not much effet,

check that the long list of recalls has been carryed out
