    Defer as a camper

    Hi all.

After some serious thought (and a slight nudge from the missus) I've decided to go for a wagon over a dual cab ute.

Even though I'd love a ute, the wagon ticks more boxes.

So that said, what I'm really after is something that I can fit 4/5 people in (when needed) but that can also sleep 2 adults in the back for short camping trips.

So at the moment, I'm thinking Defender or a Tojo Troopy.
I know roughly how much space is in the back of a troopy and the layout of seating, but I'm not very familiar with the seating in the back of a defer.

So I was wondering if a few of you could let me know how the rear seats fold down in the defer and how much room is in the back (with seats in place and with seats folded up) or if possible, maybe post a few picks with seats folded up so I can start getting a bit of a visual?

I'm just not sure if the seats in the defer fold down and you lay on top of them or if they fold up and they almost act as a head rest?

Any info would be much appreciated - I know I've posted alot of questions of late so I hope on not ****ing too many people off!

    Cheers.

Do you mean a brand new Defender or an older one (specify) as they are different.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

I'm thinking 2000 onwards mate - sorry if that's quite broad. As you can see my knowledge is pretty bloody limited!

The seats changed in 2007 with the new model Defender. They are totally different.

I have a 1995 130 Ute so unsure if these work teh same as teh wagon, hopefully someone with a wagon will be able to assist.

    Hi there,
I have a 2006 110 Defer. Back seats allow 3 adults to settle in comfortably. They do not fold flat
And I have a strong sus****ion you would not be able to sleep in the back. I have a false floor in the back and still can not sleep in the back. I am setting it up as Camper, removing the back seats etc look forward to hearing your adventures.

How tall are you? I'm 6 2 and can sleep in the back of my 110 - with the rear seats removed. This is about a 10min job. If you want two people sleeping in the back, then you'll need a false floor to raise up both up to the top of the wheel arches.

For the year range that you are looking at there are no 'troop carrier' (van style) defenders which is ideally what you want. For the wagons you will need to remove the rear seats.

I guess that in THIS thread you are going to find some ideas for your future 110 wagon.

    our camper build

camper build pictures by hohar - Photobucket

Have you considered the room you would have in a duel cab, lots, and it is very good for long distance touring which we do regularly there are plenty of ready made campers and seconded hand, out there for Utes
