Wade,
You might want to re-read what you have written for typos!
And some of your statements appear clouded by marketing blurb.

increasing boost increases the amount of air .. more air = more diesel that can combust during the compression stroke .. diesels typically only run somewhere between 70-85% percent efficient .. the less diesel that is coming outta your engine and burning up in the exhaust pipe the cooler the EGT's will be .. typical example is with a diesel gas system .. diesel gas uses a small amount of LPG as a catalyst to burn more of the diesel on the compression stroke resulting in somewhere between 25-45% increase in power, but also lowers egts as it is around the 97-99% efficient. Its one of the reasons why when you blow an intercooler/turbo hose you feel a significant loss of power, you also see massive clouds of black smoke (unburnt fuel) and your egts climb through the roof ..
DPF (diesel Particulate Filters) and EGR Systems are some of the ways that manufacturers overcome the emission systems side of the equation ..

If the flash tune lowers exhaust temp by burning a higher percentage of the fuel it would be common sense that the engine itself would be hotter as more of the fuel is being burnt inside the block rather than in the exhaust or released unburnt out the rear. IMHO
One thing I would like to see is a power comparison between a flashed diesel and a LPG diesel as well as egt.

						Sorry John,
I wrote that on no sleep and looking back I cant see the typo's you refer too, other than the odd spelling error, that is my understanding from the work I have done to my own vehicle (not a defender) I am happy to have my understanding clarified ..
Frantic, EGT's are typically measured in the exhaust system, I think my bung was welded onto the dump pipe, i'm fairly sure that burning the fuel in the engine doesn't have as much of an issue on heat as it does in the exhaust .. hence why the cooling system runs at upto @120c and the EGT's can safely get upto 700C before you start to worry ..
but again i am happy to be corrected .. I'm an auto elec, not a diesel mechanic ..
