SupporterHi I have been looking for some suitible towing mirrors for the Defender. a google serch took me into some of the Uk Land Rover sites where they recommend using longer mirror arms, Apparentley the arms from wolf or sherpa vans are a straight fit.(what ever Wolf and Sherpa vans are.)and can be picked up from the wreckers over there.
Can any one help with what models Wolf or Sherpa may be in Australia, or know of any other extended arms that may be available here.
Cheers Dave
When I looked at them here they were very cost prohibitive.

I have never seen a Sherpa van equivalent in Aus. It's an LDV vehicle. They're everywhere in the UK, the post office use thousands of them. You could try any UK scrapyard, probably get them for pence, but postage would be the killer.
As for Wolf I figure they mean the UK military vehicle based on the Defender. There arn't too many around so doubt that the mirrors off of them would be in any way cheap. May be army surplus but again the postage would kill the price.

Send a pm to newhue (Jason). He has a set he got out of the UK. I think. They look the goods too.
Amazing what you find when one spends too much time reading about Landies.
The wolf arms extend the mirrors length out almost by double. I can easily see past my 1.8 metre wide now. However I think 1.9 or 2 meters may be there limit.
My experience was the UK are far cheaper the Aus unfortunately.
Buy genuine, I found the springs in the after market ones I got are not strong enough. With the mirror being out so far they vibrate and become useless.
I now have genuine and they work as they should. I would imagine there is only two if not one factory making these arms.
When off road, if the track is too narrow, I simply compress them into the door same as original.
hope this helps

I ordered a pair from Les Richmond auto in Melbourne, they were genuine, and were fantastic to see past my trayon camper which is 2.1 wide, however at about 95 km/h they would fold back about 1 inch, so I had to put a large cable-tie around the hinge to stop it. You couldn't pick they were wider unless you really looked, but they were expensive.
Cheers,
Fraser

Now, I've not dealt with them since moving to Australia 20 odd months ago and I'm not sure on their Oz delivery service, but on their parts availability and advice they can't be faulted. It could be well worth it to make contact.
Cheers!

SupporterThanks every one what a great site this is. not only have you given me links to people that supply this part, but also tips and pics on how to fit them.
Thanks again Dave.
I have recently started to use some Milenco Aero mirrors on the Defender which I thought wouldn't work but turn out to be ideal with no vibration or coming loose at 70mph. The UK site shows a supplier in Oz so cost shouldn't be an issue.
Mirrors | Milenco Limited | Caravan Products | Caravan Security | UK
The mirrors are designed to be slotted in between the mirror housing and the mirror glass of most cars, this however isn't the case with the defender so I removed the square rubber securing foot which exposed the thread and ball on the end of the tensioner. This fits perfectly between the defenders mirror rubber surround and the plastic mirror housing.
I tow a 26ft twin axle which is 2.5m wide and these mirrors allow you to see down the side effortlessly.
