Excessive oil consumption in TDCi ?

Anyone had this happen or heard of this happening ?

Met a bloke and his wife today who are on their way to the Cape from Tassie and he's having a few problems with his Defender.

The main one is that it's chewing through oil, to the tune of almost 1l/1000km.
Can't recall how many km on the clock, 15,000 or so ?

Anyway, he asked me if there were any dealers on the way and the closest I could think of was Brisbane, forgot all about Toowoomba.

He's also having weird things happening with the TC/ABS.
I got the distinct impression he wished he'd brought his '68 Series II instead.

My Puma has not used a drop of engine oil since new. It's only done 28000km in the three year i've had it though. On the 5000km round trip north and back no oil was consumed either. All good.

    Umm, didn't ask Justin

I went to the post office on the way to get some morning tea and we met outside the PO.
He pulled up in front of me.

It's a white 110 though with Tassie plates and those little mesh grilles over the tail lights
Oh, and he's put 130 springs under it. (I assume just the fronts ?)

Oh, forgot to add that Brissy is 700km away from here whereas once Land Rover had a dealer in Tamworth (90-100km away) and Armidale (200km) etc.

Same with mine, 16,000km and not a drop added other than the 2 services its had.

Sounds like something very wrong with that engine...

Almost 28,000km on the clock and not a single drop of oil used, not even on a 6000km/3 week trip to Namibia earlier this year.

    Something is definitely amiss

Never used a drop in either of my Pumas, the '08 had done 85,000km's, and my '10 has done 45,000km's. There's something very out of the ordinary with that blokes car

    Cheers,

    Tim
